No mods. My old shifter broke & I hated that stupid ball/button shifter deal anyways so, I went & got what you see above out of a bird at the j/y for $5 & bolted it right in. My camaro is an 84.. didn't pay any attn to the year bird but, year shouldn't make any differance.

i have interchanged the shifter handles on these cars many times...they will all interchange (right now i have an 92 maro handle on my 89 bird). all you have to do is locate the proper shifter handle, i would say junkyard, or ebay has some leather wrapped ones, and pull out a little u clip that is on the front (closer to the stereo climate controls) of the handle (i use the handy dandy screwdriver ). slide the old handle off, and slide the new one on, then just push the clip firmly into place........Or if u want, keep it off and just take the handle and plastice pushrod out of the shifter when u leave your car, instant security system

Hey brad.. thanx... per $, they are great decks... sadly...even though it's a low buck deck.. it's more valuable than the car itself lol (seriously)

Got mine from Sears for $120... plays cdr & cd-rw's skip free (except for a few train crossings...) which was my only requirement.

In case anyone noticed (or really even gives a crap), the HVAC controls are from a firebird as well...
