will 1LE brakes clear stock 16 GTA mesh wheels

I pretty much excluded Baer as a viable option as they won't clear my rims. So my million dollar questions is, will the 1LE front and PBR rear clear the wheels without spacers or grinding?? If someone has this combo please post a pix or confirm the fit.

I know some of you wonder why I don't go with 17s. My reason, the stock wheels have ALWAYS been a favorite of mine, so I really want to keep the stock wheels.

Your input is appreciated

Andy do you have the complete rear PBR setup available??
if so please post a link, Im going to buy the front from steve, unless I can buy the package

:-) Ill put it to u this way :-)
My Turbo Trans Am has 1Le fronts with the pbr rear brakes and the rims fit just fine :-) and they did on all the other 1le firebirds and turbo trans am's too :-)

So yes if u mean the factory style dual piston caliper , 12 inch(close enuff) rotors as in the 1LE setup as was available from he general the cross lace rims will work no problem

Hey 3.8

Did the factory use any wheel spacers on your 1 LE turbo? Plus are they the same offset wheels found on my 91 GTA

edited for being tired

All stock 16" f-body rims will fit over the 1LE brakes. I haven't heard of anything otherwise. Even some 15" inchers.

I was wondering if you guys know, i just picked up the rear brakes from a 99 transam, PBR calipers, mounting brackets, backing plates with the drum style e brake, and rotors. What is involved in swapping them on my 84 Z28 with 4 wheel disk and a 9 bolt???

Perfect Kat Thanks

Looks like it has room to spare, I cant figure out why the baer would hit, since the rotors are also 12s. But I guess the 1LE is period correct.

Thanks again for the photo Kat

The newer Baer casting is much thicker overall and has created some problems with certain wheel fitments. They might/have fit on some of the 16" wheels, but I have heard a mixed yes or no on the 15" 'Mesh' wheels.

Nice pic Kat!!

Your '84 Z28 w/4 Wheel disc 9bolt. What year is the 9 bolt?

I don't believe the '99 setup will bolt up. Due to spacing problems. I encountered this problem when I was working on fitting the '93-'97 rear disc brakes onto a 3rdgen rear. I did eventually solve the problem. But it required extensive modifications. The spacing on the late 4thgen cars between the axle housing flange and the axle shaft flange is different (much closer) than on 3rdgen cars. The tech article on this subject even refers to this " When I turned the axle, everything cleared fine, except the emergency brake rubbed a little. This is fine, since I can adjust it. Plus, driving it down the road would take care of that, too."

Then their is the brake line problem. Here is another quote from the tech article; " I had to bend the pipe around to make it go where it was needed. On my 1991 Firebird, the driver's side pipe just needed to be cut shorter and re-flared. On my passenger side, I had to bend the pipe around considerably and also cut it shorter and re-flare it. I used a pipe cutter and an ISO bubble flaring kit to do this. " The ISO flare tool is around $100.00

I also see no way to connect the parking brake cables to the existing parking brake assy in the driveshaft tunnel.
The end of the parking brake cable that attaches to the car is different on 4thgen cars. I suppose you could always hse a 4thgen parking brake lever assy. But I have never tried it.

i believe it to be from a 1LE car, it had a stub of an alluminum driveshaft still connected when i got it. i do not know what year exactly though. The problem i think i'm going to have is that the axel's on the 9bolts don't have c clips. they use a pressed on bearing that has a ratainer. how i'm going to get it over the axel i do not know, i grabbed them because they have the drum style e brake, and were cheap.

The baer 12s will not fit because the caliper sticks out to far toward the side of the car and hits the face of the gta rims. you can use like I think .25 spacers and they fit. They fit the diameter of the inside of the rim though. They also fit in all of the other 16" thirdgen wheels without spacers. The 13's now those need the 17 inch rim because of diameter.
