Don't know if they're the same size, but my Baer system w/12" rotors fit inside my GTA rims.

find a friend with a LS1 car, and stick a rim on the front of his car and see if it clears... or by how little it doesnt..

next best thing...
try going to a junk yard, explain what you're trying to do, and see if they will let you stick your rim on one of the wrecked cars......

No, the LS1 brakes will not fit under the GTA wheels.
When I say that, I assume you are talking about the retrofit of LS1 brakes onto thirdgens. I have installed the LS1s on my 85 IROC. I have a set of GTA mesh wheels with racing tires and the caliper rubs on the mesh portion of the wheel.
Now all hope is not lost. I like to say there are always options and I can think of one now. You could run wheel spacers which would move the wheel out some and give you the clearance you need.
You may want to check out the post "LS1 brakes...bigger...better...period" if you have not already done so. There is a wealth of info to be had in that post. Just make sure you have a few hours to read it all.

z28-- what you say is what I read on the LS1 brake post you mentioned after I posted above. BUT what you say is intriguing, how much spacer do you think you would need? I was under the impression that the LS1 brakes would not clear the inner diameter of the WS6 rims.

If only the caliper is rubbing, I would guess you could get away with a 1" spacer (www.skulte.com) and be fine.

88305,
I did not try any spacers or take measurements to determine the requirements. I decided to shelve my GTA wheels and run the IROC wheels instead. I am rather sure 1" spacer like Ed mentioned would be more than enough. I was thinking of something much less than that. When I moved my caliper inboard on the sliders like it would do as the brake pads wear, the rubbing stopped. By my guesstimate you may need only 1/4" to 3/8" or so. Keep in mind though, I did not actually take any measurements. The next time I'm in the mood, I'll dig out some spacers I have around and try them to see how they work.
As far as where the caliper rubs, it could change depending on the mounting brackets you use. I fabricated my own brackets. I very carefully selected the position of the holes to mount the caliper to the bracket. I knew the caliper was reported to rub on the weld bead on the GTA wheels, so I located my caliper as close to the hub as I could for more clearance. This also allowed me to center the brake pad on the rotor face better.

yeah thats what I wouldve thought -- they wouldve rubed on the inside of the spun part of the rim. but if you can get the caliper inboard enough and get away with a couple 1/8" spacers that would be great.
I will watch the LS1 brakes thread and keep looking at this post.
I should do the brake swap this winter.
its between LS1's or C4's and with LS1 rear disks.

I agree with Chuck, it shouldn't have to be an inch spacer, less will do.
Keep your eyes on those threads!

Back from the dead....I stumbled across this and have the answer.
Like I posted in the LS1 thread, (https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...hreadid=183169) you will need at least a 3/16" spacer to make them fit.

Formy wheels fit fine, no issues. The GTA wheels are pretty much flat on the back side, all others I've tested have the casting moving gradually out toward the lip of the wheel and it's not an issue.
