LS1 Brakes

Ok, i'm sure this has been posted on here many times... I spent some time searching and didn't really find what i was looking for though. Basically I came across a good deal on a complete LS1 brake set up (ls1 buddy bought a baer kit). I'm wondering if there is a good write up somewhere on how exactly to do it, and what i'd need. I'm also curious if the brackets are the same as the c5s? Basically, if i do whatever i need to to get the ls1s on my spindles can i later upgrade to c5 calipers/rotors just by buying them, or would i need a different mounting set up? Oh, and i have 10 spokes so i have no worries about the wheel clearance issues. Thanks.

boy, you are probably going to get flamed for this even though you did say you searched.

You can check out technical article section of this site. Although LS1 install link seems to be broken. Here's one from the same fbody.com site that should work:
http://www.fbody.com/tech/details.cgi?id=30

As for LS1 vs. C5 I want to say calipers are interchangable but I am not 100% positive. You should wait for someone more sure of this one. I still haven't looked at much of brake stuff for my own car.

And how come I hear of so many 4th gen buddies getting baer kits and giving us their left overs. Why can't we get baer kits? Are they that much better?

well, if that is the case, why are so many of us switching to them? Something tells me they are still better than the factory ones we got stuck with.

I say if you get a deal on complete LS1 setup, go for it (depends on the deal of course)

Because 3rd gens are lighter then 4th gens on average.

This means that there is less force to stop, meaning you don't really need brakes as big.

Maybe because a Baer kit for our cars that is the same **** as ls1 brakes runs like 1200+. So it doesn't make sense for us to buy that kit when we can just get ls1 brakes. They don't quite have the same upgrade options we do. There isn't much they can do besides vette or aftermarket...

Also, thanks for the link, but... That's to swap ls1s on to an LT1 camaro, i'm looking for info to put the LS1s on my 3rd gen.

My spindles are done and brackets are on :-)

Grease the bearings and do the final assembly and mine are ready to go. Wayyyyyyyyyyyyy better than the puny 10/5 inchers we got from the factory :-)

Search under "1LE Alternative" in the brakes section(obviously).

If your not making the pieces/hubs yourself talk to ebmiller88.

He is the man and superduper knowledgeable on what u need to do this swap .

later
Jeremy

how about this link then.

That link basically outlines everything you need to do to get C5s onto your car. LS1 and C5 calipers are interchangable. The only difference between the two is that C5 has ribs for more structural support. ( I am not sure if they are ligher, or about the same in weight)

These are mine after I got some Por-15 on em. The whole setup is pretty easy to do. Almost ready to put mine on.

i love my ls1s, the car stops soooooooo much better now

the only downsides are you cant run 15s without grinding on the caliper(i hear many arguments both ways on doing that)

and ive also read that under extreme conditions the calipers have the tendency to suffer from piston spread, but i dont at what level you would experience that

I'm sorry to have to point this out, but there is a complete guide to installing LS1 brakes on the 3rd gen car in the FAQ Board. Its on the first page of threads. It is 9 pages, but it is well worth your time. I even think the thread is clearly labled with LS1 in it. What kind of searching did you do???

On another note, I never would have imagined that there would be a 3rd gen Fbody owner who would be against bigger and better brakes. Now I have read it all!

Don't be sorry, that has some good info in it. Thanks. As far as the searching i did, i spent some time searching through threads. I must have either missed that one or not searched really good through the FAQ board. I haven't spent a whole lot of time on this site and first thought i didn't think that the FAQ board would be full of technical info, I thought the good brake info would be in the suspension and brakes section.
