drum to disc brake conversion
drum to disc brake conversion
ive got an 88 iroc w/ drum
putting in a disc rear end from a 86 or 87
i know the Proportioning valve is different & the e-brake cables are too (anyone know the part #'s or what years to look for to get the right ones?)
my question is will a Proportioning that i had bought previously for my 85 work ?
thanxs
edit checked with a dealer, 85 is 1 year specific only, but any info on the e-brakes would still be appreciated

For your '88 with the old Moraine iron calipers you'll need prop valve # 14089497. I have one if you want my old one you can have it for $20 shipped, I went to 1LEs and used the 1LE prop valve. However, in any case, I STRONGLY suggest rebuilding your calipers with the recall kit since they're probably frozen up and will NOT work right without installing it. Another option would be to install '89-97 PBR brakes and avoid the iron calipers all together.

If anyone needs stuff for their conversion, I have a complete setup off my 88 GTA. Car has 65k orig miles, and the rear brakes worked pretty good, and even the e-brake would hold. Have calipers, good rotors, new pads, backing plates and even e-brake cables. Will have a prop valve as well. willing to let it all go cheap since it will just be taking up space now. If not, oh well, it will just collect dust I guess.

I just converted from drums to disc and I haven't gotten around to changing my proportioning valve yet.. but honestly, the car stops great with out changing it.

I have the e-brake cables, M/C and proportioning valve (J65), calipers (with e-brake rebuild kits) and rotors from my conversion to PBR's. All functioned perfectly when removed from my 85 IROC. Taking up space in the garage. Make me an offer.
