What's That Noise?!?!?!

Well my dad and I redid the brakes on the Camaro a few months ago and ever since then there is this rather noticeable clunking noise when I step on the brakes. (He's a former Mr.Goodwrench so I like to think he knows what he's doing.) The noise seems to be coming from the master cylinder, or perhaps the front left brake. I'm not sure. It almost sounds as though someone is knocking on the firewall. But it usually tends to fade out after I've been driving for a while...usually. The funny thing is: after my dad did my mom's brakes on her Astro, it did the same thing. Any ideas as to what this may be? And more importantly, how to fix it?

I need to find a new mechanic. . .

Best thing to do is to take the wheels off and give them another inspection.
