So do you want an upgrade or just upgrade the brakes you already have?

well it stops ok now , but the brakes are old and worn and its one of the most important parts on the car,
so a total front replacement and a master cylinder.
the master can wait but what about calipers and rotors?

Buy stock replacement blank calipers from Autozone. Whatever's cheapest will work fine. Buy re-manufactured calipers, also at Autozone, for $12.99 each (after core refunds of course). Either buy new mounting hardware (caliper slide pins), or take them to a bench grinder with a wire wheel and lube them up real good when putting back together.

Buy stainless steel braided brake hoses, makes a nice improvement by reducing compliance (brake hose bulge). Also replaces those old collapsed stock lines that don't allow enough fluid through.

Buy a good set of pads. A lot of people like Hawk HPS pads and a few others like EBC GreenStuff I believe. I've also heard very good things about Stillen MetalMatrix pads. These will be my next choice.

When I reached this point on my '92. . . it was also time to upgrade. For only a little more $$'s I installed C4 brakes that have a 12" rotor and 2-piston PBR aluminum calipers (as mentioned in another post). The cost difference is minimal. The braking difference is dramatic.

After installing and using these brakes I've flat out stated that these should have been factory stock. No-doubt-about-it! And they look great, checking out the wheels all one can see is rotor. Along with a bit of finned aluminum caliper. . .

Yes, they fit under the 15" wheels. This has also been stated by many others on this board. The brakes are from a 1988 through 1996 Corvette with standard 12" rotors. Check this thread:

https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...hreadid=142115

As for cost: $150US for 2 calipers with pads, buckets and hardware, from re-cycle yard. $72US for 2 new rear rotors. $18US for steel to make the brackets. $6US for brake fluid. $0 for hubs, modified the stock ones, $0 for spindles, modified the stock ones. $12US? for new wheel studs. Used same stainless flex lines as already had on stock brakes. I also replaced the wheel bearings and seals. Then some paint for the hubs and rotors.
