no left front brake - frustrated

The car was pulling under braking and an inspection revealed the left front disk was not working as evidenced by surface rust on the rotor. I replaced the caliper assembly but no change. Tried a spare known good combo valve with no change. With the car up on jack stands and the suspension with no weight on it when I bleed the brakes by having a helper push the pedal I get a weak steady stream of fluid. With the egine running (power brake car) I get a good seady stream of brake fluid. With the pedal pushed with the car on jack stands I cannot turn the rotor. The right front disk works properly. What happens with the weight of the car on the suspension? I am at a loss of what to do.

Not to sound like an ***, but are you sure you are bleeding them correctly? What condition are the hoses and lines in?

Sounds like a bad brake hose to me.

Absolutely, replace the brake hose. Over time they come apart inside and clog up preventing the caliper from working.

I was leaning toward the issue being a bad hose but would expect one to last more than 2 years. I think I will take it off and get another one since it is a lifetime warranty one. Thanks for the assistance.

I'd look into replacing the calipers as well. Dirt cheap fix for these cars.

Its the hose, I had the same thing happen to me about a year ago the hose was ballooning on the inside, and I replace it with new russell lines steel braid, very inexpensive for what you get and fixed it no problem, I now have a very good peddle and will lockem up with too much pressure.

Went and replaced the hard lines on the front of the car and also the flex (rubber hose) to the left front. Worked good for about a week and now back to no left front brake. Now what?

seems to me you're bleeding them improperly. if you're certain you've bled them the right way, try replacing the caliper.

I'm having the same problem... Just replaced brake hoses (with Russel Braded), Calipers, Rotors, and Pads. I have bled the brakes twice (once with someone in the car pushing on the pedal, and second time I bought a vac and did it that way).

Passenger side with the same setup is fine. With the car up, I cannot move the caliper when someone steps on the brake, but when I drive the car it pulls right...

Help......

The car can pull right from a bad alignment. Does it do it only when you hit the brakes? All the time or some of the time (depending on road surface)? How old is your front end (tie rods, center link, etc.)?

Alignment was done yesterday and it was still pulling today. Tie Rods, Front end links, ball joints, struts, all about 2 years old....

Something I just forgot to mention, Both rotors were replace the same time, about a month ago. I can still see the machining marks on the left rotor, where as the right one looks more like a rotor should after use (smooth)...

Sounds like something might be wrong with the left side. Does it pull only when you brake? How bad does it pull in a panic stop? Did it do this before you changed your hoses, calipers, etc?

I my case which has the same problem the harder I brake the more it pulls. A panic stop will throw the car to the right pretty bad. Since it appears to work with the car jacked up can a hose or something get in a bind when the car is lowered onto the ground?

Did you try it with the tire on? It will give you a lot more leverage then the rotor by itself.

Also, with the car up, stick another jack under the lower a-arm and lift that up to about ride level that way you have the car off the graond but still have load on the arm and try and turn the wheel.... Not sure what it proves, but may help find the problem.. As soon as mine comes back from Air Conditioning repair (can't live in Florida without it) I will try the same.

You have a caliper bound-up. Swap it out, cheap and easy fix. Also, as you're in Florida you need to flush and bleed your brakes every 10-12K miles without fail.... Trust me on this!
