Brakes lock when first start driving.
Hi, I have a 92 Trans Am with a 305 TBI. Its brakes worked fine when I first got it, but it had been sitting awhile. But now if I let it sit for a couple of hours and go to drive it the first couple of times I hit the brakes they are very sensitive and squeek really loud but after hitting it a couple of times it is better. It also feels like the car pulses to a stop from high speed but not hard braking. My idle also seems to search, could it be vacume leak? Please help it is embarrasing in the school parking lot when your brakes are squeeking!

for starters... since the car has been sitting for a while, replace the rubber brake lines. Brake fliud will decay the inner hose and cause your calipers to stay applied after you remove your foot from the brake

Just wanted to bump this thread up as Im having the exact same problem, and it has nothing to do with the idle.

<CENTER><B>Your rotor(s) are warped, replace them.<P>
Bout the squeak, coat the metal side of your brake pads
with anti-squeak compound.</B>

Well, I found out that it was my rear brakes and they are drums so they aren't warped. But I took it in to a shop and they found that the shoes were only working when I first begin to drive and then they don't work so they cleaned and adjusted them and they worked at first but now they don't. I think I need to bleed the lines. Any other ideas would be great. And thanks for the comments and ideas already.

I think only my fronts work when I first start up, and all the pressure is applied to them. Ive heard the ebrake is supposed to adjust the rears? Well if its been sitting for a while, the ebrake will travel a lot farther at first, and then it tightens up. So im wondering if something on the rears is backing out. I seem to remember hearing something about this and its a typical problem. Today I will pump my ebrake first and then ill see if my brakes do the same thing.

<B>Pulsating brakes are caused by warped rotors or drums. You
can test for it yourself by rotating the wheels by hand with the car
off the ground, while your pads are lightly touching.<P>'Bout the
sensitivity, check for rear axle grease getting on your linings. Let
the car sit overnight. In the morning do not drive it.........pull your
rear wheels off and inspect for axle grease. (It leaks past your axle
bearings) Squeaking on your rear brakes is consistent with
contaminated brake linings, so check for that grease.
