best brake pads?

Until I can afford real brakes, I would at least like to have a pad with the most stopping power possible.

I have cross drilled rotors so heat shouldnt be as much of an issue. The calipers are OE for a 91RS (are Z28 calipers the same?).

I dont care if the pads require me to clean the dust off my wheels every day, I just want to stop as best as I can until I can get something better.

Any recommendations on pads is appreciated.

I've heard good things about Stillen, EBC, and Hawk's. Also, Performance friction pads are good once they are warmed up.
I've used Raybestos and Wagner in the past and both were acceptable but nothing to write home about. I'd say the four I mentioned first probably offer the most stopping power, just maybe not in that order.

Thanks. Any one better than the other? I have the Raybestos now (supposedly their top of the line) and I am pretty disappointed.

Trust me when I recommend Stillen metal matrix brake pads for everyday street use and autox. They are fantastic, noise free, and no warm up needed. Very high temp useage before you get fade, in other words, its hard to get them to fade on the streets, only when hot on a road course. They have a great initial bit and a positive pedal fee right off the bat- very smooth bite and release. PFC pads are terrible with no initial bite at all, you have to lay on them for them to work. EBC's leave pad buildup on the rotor surfaces and lead to a warped brake feeling in no time when you get them hot from semi hard use.

I have run Stillen pads on all my cars for years now. I swapped the Camaro to Wilwood calipers awhile back and unfortunately for me I can only find EBC's and Wilwood copounds for street use that are not anywhere as good all around as the stillen pads and Stillen does NOT make a metal matrix pad to fit my custom brake setup- otherwise I would have them on the car again in a heartbeat.

I have not tried the Stillen pads, but I can say that the Hawk HPS pads are much better the the Performance Frictions. The PF pads were downright scarey when cold. I have some Hawk HP+ pads but I havent tried them yet.

Justin, I plan on trying the HPS pads next for my Wilwoods. Hawks makes a pad to fit my calipers. I new trying the EBC green pads again would lead to pad buildup on the rotor, but since my brakes run much cooler they lasted a few months longer before the pulsing started this time. EBC's lasted about 3 months on my stock setup and they last about 9 months on the new setup before you start to feel the slight pulsing of the rotor from pad builup on them.

I love the HP+ pads from Hawk. They dust like crazy but stop very well. Only problem I have is that they are only good for about 3 hrs of track time (Summit Point)

Anybody have experience with both the Hawk and the Stillen? Sounds like they are both great parts, but if anybody knows both and has a "this one is better because..." opinion between the two, I would like to hear it.

I have it narrowed to these two, but which is better?

Which Hawk's pad ? HPS, HP+ or the ceramic pads. I don't know which one compares to the Stillen ? Stillen a little harder to get.
I wanted a rotor friendly but much more aggressive pad so I recently ordered the HAWK's HPS which Jegs or Summit carry.
For my application they were 15.00 cheaper than Stillen. I haven't got them yet so I would be interested in those that have each........

I have HPS rear and HP+ front. I have gone through three sets of HP+ in front and the HPS rear are still good. HPS give very little dust in comparison. HP+ does not chew up the rotor in order to improve the braking which some pads do. HP+ is a great street pad that does not need to heat up to give a good bite.
