LT1 rear parking brake
ok... i have the LT1 rear in and all.. problem i have is with the parking brake cables.. i got the disc cables from a 91 1st design 1460mm..... question i have is how do you route these so that they wont hang down and will hook up correctly.
i have them hooked on the calipers, and i can get them to reach the bracket in the tunnel, but to do so i am not able to route the cables over the axle as they would be too short and if i go under the axle there is no where to support them from hanging to low. is there something i am missing? also the passenger side wants to lay against the exhaust... please help so i can get this done
thanks in advance

I think the 1st design is 1434mm. At any rate, check the following link:

You need the "S" hooks that hold the cables up and out of the way, as seen here. Read through my how to as well if James' doesn't do it for you:

ive got the s hooks... problem is... if i take the cable over the axle, it doesnt seem to be long enough.... both of yours seem to be going over the axle and thru the guids on the rear cover.. that is not even possible when i put this it.. not even close to long enough... maybe advance gave me the wrong cable.. i asked for 1st design.. they said it was the 1460 mm but we all know how they can be with giving the right parts... ill look at it again tonight and try to get some pics..

You need to buy 4th gen brake cables. You used a complete rear, right. They are longer than the 3rd gens so the cables need to be longer.

4th gen cables are different. they do not attach the same way... i have those cables, but dont see how you can get them to work. they wont hook up to the parking brake cable in the tunnel nor is there anywhere for them to attach to the tunnel.. again if i am missing something let me know

Poster, what's the P/N on the cables you used? For your '91 you need P/N (Raybestos) BC # 94597, second design.

Im at work now so ill check to be sure the part number, but i know they are the 1460mm length as it is on a 91 z28.... been sick the last week so havnt been able to get a picture to show what i mean when i say they are short.. but id doesnt seem as though it is at all possible to go over the axle thru the guids on the rear as intended.. 4th gen cable would do this, but wont hook up correctly to the trans tunnel etc. i can get everything hooked up with the cables i bought, but again only if i go under the axle and then i have the problem on how to properly attach them as well as keep off the exhaust. any suggestions?

Are you running the cables through the 4th gen cable guides as pictured below? If so, look at the left side of the picture and at the smaller steel loop on the axle tube. That loop is the stock location for 3rd gen brake cable retainers. If you are using the 4th gen cables, "stretching" them to reach the retainers bolted to the diff may be the issue. I would think the cables would be long enough but maybe not. Also, if you are using the 4th gen guides and MUST use them, bend the main part straight to give you some added room. This my help and this may not but it's the best I can do without seeing it up close.

the part number i have is the one you posted.. and is 1460 mm... ive tried to run the new 3rd gen cables thru the 4th gen guides, but like i said it dosent seem to reach.. didnt want to stretch too much.. guess i can look again at it....
I dont need to use the guides, just would like the cables not hanging loose of course and would like them tucked up in some way.. mainly the pass side so the cable isnt laying on the exhaust pipe...
