c5 brake pad options.need help brake guys!
i have a c5/zo6 brake set up on the front of my 86 iroc. they guy who did the kit for me told me the zo6 had come with better pads then the basic c5, were the zo6 pads ceramic? i opted for the hawk hps pads and i think they are carbon ferro or ferro carbon something like that. but he said they were an upgrade even for the zo6 pads. guys give me input, i love the hawk pads but they dust like a mother f^%$#@.....lol.

that guy was blowing brake dust at you, the only difference with c5 is z06 is painted red, that it. just put on ceramic pads and get rid of the brake dust.

The Z06 pads are a different composition than the standard C5 pads, but the problem is they are EXTREMELY dirty. I replaced the stock pads with Hawk pads and dust was cut in half. If you think the Hawks are bad, put a set of Z06 pads on there and you will switch back.
thanks for the input, my car is a LONG work in progress and it really isnt drivable for a while yet......but i put the zo6 brakes on with the hawk pads and i got to drive it about 4 or 5 miles. and they dusted bad and i figure alot of it is the break in on the rotors and pads, especially the rotors since they are slotted. 8 slots to be exact....lol. i just hope they dont dust like that after i get to brake them in. id have to clean my front rims everytime i get to a show ....lol

If brake dust is a main concern another option is Carbotech Bobcats. I've only put about 20 miles on them but they were clean.
I didn't think they had too much stopping power though. I run xP8's for the track and I like them much better, but they are extremely dirty and noisy. It all depends on what you want. If you want to stop hard you're going to have to make some sacrifices.

I've heard that the Zo6 pads are a good all around pad. The people that I talked to didn't complain about the dust, but they told me that they last longer than the Hawks and stop better.
