Brake Down-grade!! C5 to C4 or Ls1

I bet this is a thread that doesnt show up much. I have C5 brakes currently and want to down grade to C4's or LS1's. What parts are interchangeable? My spindles are modified already and have regular (non 1le)camaro hubs. Do I just have to swap out the calipers, abutment brackets and rotors? Or will i also have to use differnt spindle to abutment brackets? The spindle to abutment brackets and hubs i bought from TPI383.

Oh reason for wanting to swap is going with smaller wheels and tires at the track not to mention the Baer Eradispeed Rotors are 23lbs each. But they do look awesome.Thanks......jt

IIRC, the LS1 calipers do fit into the abutment brackets from the C5. Thing is, if you change the rotors out to a smaller diameter, your calipers are going to be too far away. You might be better off selling your whole setup in exchange for a "lesser" setup.

So I can use a LS1 caliper with the C5 rotors and abutment bracket? I would still have to run atleast a 16" wheel though, wouldnt I??

I'm kind of leaning more toward the C4 set up so that i can run 15" wheels when i go to the track. I think this would require me getting new spindle to abutment bracket, and the C4 abutment with C4 calipers and rear C4 rotors. Does this sound right?

You're right, this type of thread doesn't come up much. Let's set you straight.

LS1 and C5 calipers will interchange, yes. But if you're wanting to go to LS1s or C4s, you can keep your hubs and spindles but, if you haven't already, you'll need to remove the lower steering stop for those setups. Also, since you'll be going to a smaller rotor, you'll need different adapter brackets, your C5 brackets won't work with the others.

As you estimated, it should be just brackets, calipers, rotors, and abutments.

So what happens if I just swap out the Calipers to the LS1 style and change nothing else. What size rim can i run with it? 16" Weld Draglights fit? or am I still stuck with running a 17" wheel.

Ed, Can you PM me a price on the C4 brackets that I will need? Wouldnt mind a price on the Calipers, and abutment brackets as well. I'll probably just pick up a set of C4 rear Eradispeeds since i'm running eradispeeds on the back anyway.

Really, I'm leaning more toward the C4 set up so that I can run some 15" Drag Lite wheels on the car at the track. I will probably be slling everything outright in the near future. The two front Baer Rotors were $350.00 so i need to try to get some money back out of the set up..........jt

Would your brakes work with 17" wheels? I have the C4s you're interested in and if 17s will work we'll talk. Ed, chime in here.

Yes, The C5's will fit 17" wheels. Whats kind of mileage are on your brakes? Were they new GM parts or used? Give me some details. All my parts are New GM parts with Baer Rotors. Less than 500 miles on the set up........jt

Mine are one of Ed's first C4 kits. I estimate mileage at around 1000-1200 miles but they are clean (ask Ed, he's seen them recently). The calipers were rebuilt PBRs to my knowledge and everything else was new with the spindles being modified by Ed. Earl's lines and the rotors are regular C4 rotors.

Yep, Mike's kit is one of mine is and is one of the cleanest you'll ever see, just like the rest of his car...you should see that thing. You won't be disappointed with it, and I stand behind it totally.
