Drums locking up
Drums locking up
I did a search and didnt come up with anything. My rear brakes keep locking up. Well they locked up again and I wrecked my car. I redid the fronts and they are fine. I was going to do the back but everything looked good.

what do you mean locking up? do they do it all by themselves or when you hit the brakes? these cars do not have antilock brakes so they tend to do this. need a little more info
Its not at anytime in particular but as I come to a stop they lock up whether it be raining or dry Ill tap the brakes to slow down and they will lock up. I just redid the front brakes with metal lines, rotors and brake resevoir. I put new aluminum drums on the back and the shoes looked ok. Its a 92 checy camaro.

Most often, "rear drums lock up" is some different language that I don't understand real well, for "front brakes don't work".
Quit working on the rears, and fix the fronts. That's why the rears lock: the fronts aren't doing their normal share (90% or so) of the work.
Most likely it's the rubber lines.

if the lines start breaking bown inside and a little bit of crape gets in to the line it can cause the brakes to lock up by themselves sometimes. had it happen in an old work truck, but it was caused by bits of ice forming in the brake lines

I would check and clean the rear shoes with some brake cleaner and light sanding, make sure the drums are free fron ANY oil or grease/fluid. the shoes bay be saturated with any of the above including water and you more than likely never see it. try cleaning and sanding everything in the drums first if that doesn't help replace shoes maybe drums

dont know if you have fixed the problem yet, but when i had my 86, i had the same problem with the wheels locking up. diagnosed the problem as the wheel cylinder. replaced that and never had a problem afterwards. hope that helps
