4TH Gen Rear ABS Brakes
I have another question for you fine folks here. I am looking at buying a 4th gen rear out of a 01 SS ,it has abs option. I want to put this in my 84 Trams Am , I have drum system now. This 4th Gen rear has the abs option with disc brakes . What problems do you think I will run into. Could I just get a master and a proportioning valve off a 3rd gen car with disc all around. Hook it up this way and just forget about the abs option. Thanks for any info Folks.

Ok After doing lots of reading I have found that this 2001 rear would have the LS1 brake system. Like I said earlier I have an 84 Trans am, I had drums on the rear of my car , I know that I need at least a new proportioning valve to get this set up to work. I was looking around today at the junk yards and I can get a booster with the master cylinder and proportioning valve off of a 86 or an 88 Camaro that has disc all around. Will this work for this set up or do I need a proportioning valve off of a 2001. Thanks for any Info

You should only need the proportioning valve - no need to change booster or master cylinder - I just got new proportioning valve for a 3rd gen with 4 wheel discs from dealer when I put LS1 rear in my 1992 Camaro.
The ABS part is electronically controlled, and since your 84 doesn't have it, there's no making it work - just don't connect anything to the connector on the rear.
Only other problems are:
Brake lines - you may have to make new double-flared fitting to attach your brake lines to the rear.
E-Brake - you'll have to do some rigging to make E-brake work.

Thanks for the reply Camaronewbie
.
I have been debating all week on diferent set up etc. Doing lots of reading and asking a few questions. I have decided this is what I am going with , the 4th gen swap. Now I can't wait to pick it up
The reason I was questioning my booster is in 84 they come with a single and a dual diaphram booster. During my reading I think that the dual diaphram boosters was used with 4 wheel disc and the single diaphram booster was ued with disc /drum. In the later years they just used double for all set ups . Does anyone know how to tell if the bosster is a single or a double . What is the benefit of a single versus a dual. Thanks again for any info
