Brake Backing Plate on 9 bolt
Hey everyone. I need to replace my backing plate on my 9 bolt rear end can not seem to find the correct plate. Mine has 4 bolts attaching it all others have 2. Also anyone have any ideas on how to take it off and install a new one????? I was tring to remove the wheel cylinder and the back plate rusted through and put a huge hole in the back plate
. Anyway thanks for everyones help in advance. I really need to get this thing going.

Anyone???? I know I can go buy new back plates but how do you get the old ones off and what kind are they I only see the 2 bolt ones. I have repair manuals but they dont make it clear on how to get the back plate off. Thanks for any help.

I pretty sure you have to take the axle out of the rearend, and also take the brake cylinder off.

You will have to remove the wheel cylinder and the two lower bolts, then the plate will come off. The wheel cylinder will be the hard part.

Axle is not difficult to remove and reinstall but it is a pain in the azz. Just be sure you have room on both sides to slide the axel out. I can't recall if the 9-bolt has the pin retainer but if it does go get a battery post tool to remove that bolt/pin. It is better than anything I have used.
