Brake Problem Rears grabbing first
Its not on a third gen but its brakes, so I hope to get an answer.
The rear brakes grab real hard before the fronts do on this car I am working on.
Its a GM and has anti-lock. The front pads and rotors are waisted (some people must not know that the grinding sound brakes make means they are bad). The rear shoes and drums I have not inspected yet but they do not make any noise. So they could be good or bad, I am just planning on replacing them anyway.
Any thoughts as to why I have the rear brakes grabbing before the fronts? Is it the proportioner/anti-lock valve?
Thanks in advance for any help.

a leaking brake cylinder, or a leaking axel seal maybe.
if you get a liquid like that on the inside of the drum it could cause the brake to grab.

You said yourself that the fronts are wasted.
Shouldnt that give you a clue as to why they are not working?

Re: Brake Problem Rears grabbing first
Let me re-phrase the question, why do the back breaks lock up with a feather light tap on the break pedal.
Forget about the front breaks being waisted because even if they were new, the back breaks would still lock up while the fronts do hardly anything.
I have seen this problem before on a car I owned years ago. Way back then I replaced the front breaks, bled them, and the rears were in OK shape, not leaking fluid, properly adjusted, and would still lock up with very little pressure applied to the pedal. Wife left me and took that car with her so I could have cared less if it got fixed or not.
Now seven years later, I am working on a friend's kid's car, and here is the same problem again, only this time I have to fix it.
