3rd to 3rd gen swap with disc brakes...whats the difference?
Im swapping my stock rear drum set up to a disc set up (the whole rear) ive read about over an hours worth of searches and read nothing but people swapping to LS1 and ford 9's and mods they have to do with the brakes but im doing a straight 3rd gen to 3rd gen swap so do i need new lines/fittings? i get the fact that drums take different pressure from disc's so should i just connect all the brake lines and change out the proportioning valve? to an adjustable one? the rear needs more pressure from what i understand. so is this the only thing i need to be aware of? i have a 91 and im not to sure what year the rear came out of, its a 3rd gen rear with discs. anyone done this swap and dealt with the brake system swappage? i cant do anything yet until i get my parts and take the old stuff out. thanks fellow members!

Just did this swap myself, although I have plans for upgrade later. My disc rear came from a 1982 Trans Am with 3.23 posi (main reason for the swap as I had a 3.08). If I am correctly informed, 1982/1983 have SAE fittings on the rear end brake lines, after 83 they went to metric. Another difference I think came in 1989 with aluminum calipers (PBR) and prior years were the single piston cast iron calipers that I have. I did do away with the stock proportioning valve and installed an adjustable valve on the rear line, the fronts are connected directly to the master cylinder with a tee connection. Park brake cables are different from the adjuster bracket to the calipers, so you need those too.

You should be OK with the cables that came with your disc rear, mine were in such bad shape I had to replace them. Just disconnect the drum cables from the adjuster/divider bracket above the drive shaft and connect the disc cables.
Anything after a 1983 axle brake line should connect to your chassis line of your 91. 82 & 83 had SAE fittings and everything else is metric and should connect to your chassis line. I'm sure others will chime in with some good info too.
I eliminated the stock prop valve and put in an adjustable one on the rear line, my front lines are connected with a tee fitting directly to the master cylinder. In the pic below, the new master cylinder is not installed yet. I have one with a switch on the reservoir for a low level brake fluid (2002 SS Camaro).

And to answer your qestion - No, that's not an ESWS pin, it's Enlisted Submarine Dolphins with a Deterent Patrol Pin

so basically disconnect everything off the old rear and put the stuff in from the newer rear? because the newer rear has everything on it, all lines and e brake cables.

well ill pray that the rear end is from at least a later 80's model or something late late. thats good because whoever took out the rear that i have now, clipped that rubber tube that comes out by the drive shaft connection after the screw together connection. so im thinking that i just have to disconnect and reconnect with the new.

ohh i see from the picture. that works out good for ya? what precentage do you have going to the rear?

well i hope that its from at least a later 80's or 90 application. i guess i lucked out becase who ever took it out (the rear) they included all brake cables and lines and they cut the main line that comes out by the shaft connection, they cipped it after the screw together fittings.

Well, I have the donor car (87 IROC) stting next to the car my rear is going under (91 RS) and it should all just drop out and swap. You can just replace the drum prop vavle with the disc prop valve if you want, they are adjustable under the little rubber cap on the front, there a screw to adjust pressure stock. He is right too, you will have to swap the e-brake cable and bracket from the other car as well, they differ from the drum set-up......
