I bit the bullet and bought the Hydra Boost system with the braided lines for $653.00. Which will be outfitted with the Wilwood Master Cylinder. I will also change the line to pre bent aluminum.

looks like they changed it some. the ones I saw before had a billet aluminum bracket. I want it too but not enough cash right now but with the motor I am planning I won't have enough vacuum for brakes so it is the best option for me. anyway you could trace the bracket? I will pay for it. also I think if you did a write up on the install it would probably be a sticky on here since there is alot of interest in them now.

 

The unit I got is from Performanceonline.com, since hydratechbraking.com do not sell to the public anymore once they move to their new location. The system came with direction and if my memory serve my correct they sales tech said it was a rebuilt unit from a 1988 celebrity with the mods to fit the Camaro.

 

do you have this on already? how's it working so far? I am still interested in the brackets and rod for it. but want to know if it is working oK either way.

 

This may be a dumb or already answered question in another Hydra-Boost thread but can the stock master cylinder and proportioning valve be used or did you have to switch these out?

 

the proportioning valve you are better off with an adjustable one to fine tune the system although the stock one could be used. the master needs to be machined down as far as I know but the 4th gen and c5/c6 masters will bolt right up from what I've heard though.

 

who sells this hydra boost unit? i have been looking to do this and have not found anything like this yet

That's the place, I have not installed the unit yet because the bracket were sent out for chrome and the unit is tape for painting.

I bought it without the master because I already had the Wilwood. I might be going with a different Master, so If you are interested in the Wilwood I can save you a few bucks on this one. It's Brand New in the box; just took it out to take pictures. I will let it go for $215.00 + shipping.

someone is always listening, I thought you knew by now so no chance on the brackets? if I had the dimensions I could probably get the brackets and rods made. It would take a while anyway. also props on the vert, looks good.

 

The brackets are currently out getting chrome.

 

Wowee. Just an FYI, the Wilwood master cylinder has a decent chance of not working. 90% of master cylinders won't work with 3rd or 4th gens because our booster puts the master too close to the strut tower, and with almost every master cylinder ever having lines exit on the driver's side of the master, and ours exiting on the passenger.... Leaves us few choices.

4th gen master cylinder will bolt right up to the hydroboost, no machining.

 

I know your teacher told you to read the whole story in grade school... I am using a Hydroboost, which could flip on either side....

 

Your master cylinder can't run upside down too, can it?





And the wowee was gonna be an initial comment of the price of that kit. I got my master for $10, my Hydroboost Unit for $35, and the most expensive thing (which I have yet to do) is the lines.

 

On my truck the P/S pump doesn't put out enough to cut the wheel and apply the breaks at the same time like when some jack off pulls out in front of you or some one opens a car door in a parking lot.

 

I read that that could happen if you "T" the return lines from the booster and the steering box into the same return line. Most recommend that you braze a second fitting on to your power steering pump housing so you don't create any blockages.

That, or it could actually be your pump not putting out enough. They have HO pumps on Summit.

 

The Wilwood have line on both sides, so that should not be a problem. I have plenty of room on either side.

 

Ah. Now that, I was unaware of. From every picture I've ever seen it looks like they only have ports on one side of the cylinder. That's good to know. Gives me another option that looks a little flashier than a 4th gen master.

so after it comes back then could you give me the dimensions? I want to try and do it in Cad (I just started messing with it 2 days ago) I want to do the bracket in billet aluminum so it would be one piece like how hydratech's bracket is. but the bracket like yours would be much cheaper but I am not sure why they have it out so far compared to the hydra tech bracket? seeing that makes me believe it doesn't matter anyway. The rod is adjustable so I guess that takes care of it. the rod I just need pics of all of the seperate pieces to it. looks like a small heim joint, 2 nuts, and an adjuster that matches the thread all on a piece of threaded rod. seems easy enough, but I have no idea how long it is supposed to be. I am thinking if I could get the brackets made depending on how much it would cost per run and to get the stuff for the rod. getting it and selling just that for around $100 that way anyone on here can get their own pump and lines.

 

so if your vaccume boost works ok this is unneeded?
