Warped Rotor. Do I need new brakes too?

Sometimes my steering wheel shakes violently while I am braking at about 40mph.
I'm guessing it's one of the rotors are warped. They have already been turned down once so I am just going to get a set of new ones.

My question is do I also need to replace the brake pads? I only ask because the current pads aren't too old.

Also, when it comes to replacement rotors are there options or will the ones from Kragen's work just fine?

Thanks

STOCK ROTATION

No just replace your rotors.
I’ve never used Kragen so can’t comment.

Happy Racing !

they’d be going backwards -

Re: STOCK ROTATION

go ahead and keep the pads as long as they're in good shape. as for rotor options, get whatever fits. i recomend carquest, never had a problem with them they weren't willing to fix.

I thought I had read something that said to absolutely always put new brakes on a new rotor.

i've heard that too, but i've used old pads on new rotors without a problem. it wouldn't hurt to get new pads though.

I bought replacement rotors and bearings from Kragen, hopefully the rotors are ok. They were only $22.

Did you get the cheapy red label rotors or the blue/black label ones? The blue/black label raybestos ones really are a better quality rotor. Plus all the new ones come powdercoated black (obviously not the friction surface).

you don't NEED to replace warped rotors though. not that it helps since you bought it already. if you can stand it. i did that to my cavalier, overheated the stock brakes frequently and they got really warped. i replaced them eventually because a caliper bolt stuck and wore my pad off on one side, destroying the rotor. oh well.

I would just give the pads a soft scrub with 220 grit to remove the glaze so they can re-seat to the new rotors.

Re: Warped Rotor. Do I need new brakes too?

The rotors are GS by Aimco 5064RGS Made in Venezuela (red label)
The bearings are SKF made in Mexico

What is the difference between these and the supposedly higher quality rotors?
Quality of steel? Tolerance?
Were not talking high performance slotted-drilled rotors.

On a side note: I was planning on using synthetic bearing grease. Is this a good choice? Does it matter?

If the brake pads are worn unevenly then you need to replace them because they will wear the rotor unevenly.

I would replace the brake pads. you have to take the caliper off anyway besides pads are cheap.
