Rotor noise , cross drilled n slotted.

Rotor noise, cross drilled n slotted rotors.

All my stuff is new in the brake system but the prop valve.

Hada funny noise I could never track down that only happened when going slow or stopping. Have now realized it when Im light on the brakes I can well hear them slots n hole working. Like a milling machine turing up a block of metal or sometime it sounded like a rod of metal dragging on the ground. Id stop to look and nothing is there.

So is this just me or something normal???

Re: Rotor noise , cross drilled n slotted.

High dollar carbon copper metallics or something like that I got a logn time ago from Az on lifetime warranty but they don't offer life time on them anymore.
But they still gave me a new set when I redid everything.

What I was thinking, I need some cheap organic ones that will cover the rims in a nice dust cloud even time I touch them. Man I hate that.

Re: Rotor noise , cross drilled n slotted.

I have a set making noise as well. They have advanced pads on them for break-in purposes. It only occurs during light application & reminds me of the sound made when a train crosses an intersection.

I also wondered if it was due to a loose wheel bearing, allowing the rotor to wobble slightly.

I will be switching to Hawk pads this weekend & post if there is a difference.

Re: Rotor noise , cross drilled n slotted.

Sorry,
I got sidetracked putting the motor in another car & a bunch of issues kept me from getting it done (like the hood hitting the air filter, exhaust not fitting etc.), so the brakes got put on hold. I'm hoping it is finished tomorrow.

I'll post as soon as I get the brakes on.

Re: Rotor noise , cross drilled n slotted.

Got the new pads on last night.

It does not make the noise any more with the Hawk pads.
The Hawks are tapered on the sides & the ones I removed were not. The square leading edge on the old ones could have been making the noise as they passed the slots.

Not sure why, but it is quiet now....

Have seen pade like that before and didn't like how much pad surface you lose. Never seen those most most have such a long bevel that you lose a good 35% of your pad suraface till near bad.

Re: Rotor noise , cross drilled n slotted.

The noise did go away after some time, guess them fresh sharp edges of the rotors or pade just need some time to wear into each other ehy?

Wish summer would come quicker.
Got lots of planes for it.

see sig for teasers.
