'83 Rear Disk Park Brake Weight Problem
I have an '83 disk rear that I'm planning on using behind my LS1/T56 swap. I had 4.10 gears, Auburn posi, 28 spline axles set up in it already, and the axle tubes welded. I'm planning on using an alternative rear suspension that involves a link from the top of the axle tube to the lower control arm. All would be fine and dandy, but the passenger side caliper sticks in too far and the parking brake weight interferes with the upper link.
If the weight wasn't there, there wouldn't be an interference problem. Question is, if I cut off the weight, will the spring by itself be enough to disengage the park brake? I searched the forum, but didn't find any threads addressing this. Being a manual transmission car, a park brake would be a good thing to have. I have rebuild kits for the calipers and all new park brake cables to install.
I have a drum rear I could put in, but that would mean getting the guts taken out of this rear and put in it, and then I'd only have drum brakes.
I know, upgrading to PBR brakes, which mounts the calipers to the rear, would solve this problem, but that's another $800 on an already over-budget project.

Guess I'll have to find out for myself whether or not it'll work.
