My brakes screwed me over!

I knew it was time to put on new front pads. Ok... I thought if I'm going to do that, I'm also going to put on new rotors because they felt warped. I had both pads and rotors replaced and while driving home, I could only do 45 mph going up a hill. My first thought, my tranny is slipping. When I got home, my right barke pad was smoking! Caliper musta been not releasing and brakes locked. I had to go get 2 calipers and both front brake lines as well. The guy put them on and we bled the lines. Test drove good. Got straight line braking now after about $350. Think that episode put a strain on my tranny? It seem to shift ok today...just wondering.

it probably put a little more stress on the trans, but nothing that would cause any issues since you fixed it instead of just driving it that way for an extended period of time.

It wasn't pulling super hard to the right? I would think if one of the brakes were locked you'd notice it after about 50 feet of driving.

Re: My brakes screwed me over!

I did'nt notice any pulling to the right. BUT, I did see alot of smoke coming from that right side when coming to a stop sign. And to top it off, I lost one of my center caps. This all happened on the 13th. I'm a believer now!! LOL!

Re: My brakes screwed me over!

I just replaced all rotors and pads. My front right is also hanging up. The rotor looks like it is getting burned. I put less then 2 miles on them. I dont wanna ruin a new rotor. I am searching now, or anyone got a idea I can try?

Re: My brakes screwed me over!

first off did you ever disconnect the calipers??? if so did you bleed your brakes after the install?? if not thats your problem i changed my calipers forgot to bleed them backed out of the drive way and had them hang up on me automatically. if not you may have bad calipers that got stuck when you compressed your pistons all the way in to install the new pads.

If your refering to me. Yes I bleed the only caliper I disco'd. One would not press back in. So I pulled it and a small shot of air the piston popped out. It all looked pretty clean, I still cleaned it up and the piston would then press in by hand. After caliper install I bled it. After I noticed it would not back off, I pulled it and tried to press the piston in with a c-clamp. It would not press in. New Line and I can press it in by hand.

Re: My brakes screwed me over!

I thought that if your brakes had air in them they would just be very spongy, but still work. Is that wrong?

Re: My brakes screwed me over!

maybe a small amount mine dint work with air in the lines thou lol. are you still having the problem? if you are maybe you have a collapsed line theres not a whole lot that can go wrong in a braking system its just a process of elimination till you figure it out.
