You should have an adjustment screw in the trans tunnel. Loosen the nut off to get some slack in the cables then pull them off the drum lever, after you take the drums off.

just pull the drum off. It does slid off, maybe with a little pursuasion if its rusted on. Then you will see when its attached inside the assembly. Then removing it from the backing plate required a special tool, or a cable tie.

I use a small worm gear hose clamp to compress the fingers on the cable retainer.

Re: How do i remove the parking brake cables from a drum rear?
sorry for confusing you guys. i am not talking about where the cables mount to the trans tunnel, or anywhere else for that matter. I'm talking about how they are connected to the BRAKE SHOE itself.
Ive got the drums off, i see the cable entering the backing plate for the drum, then i see the cable inside the brakes. What i am asking is how is it mounted to the brake shoe/pad?? Is there a ball on it just like on the other side of the cable?

To remove the cable from the parking brake arm, take your diagonal cutters and put the jaws between the spring. Pull on the cutters (compress the spring) while holding the parking brake arm. When you clear the parking brake arm, squeeze the cutters to hold the spring in place. Now you can manipulate the parking brake arm and separate it from the cable.
if you don't want to chew up your good cutters, buy a cheapo pair.

Re: How do i remove the parking brake cables from a drum rear?
First, your photography skills suck.
Take a look at the attachment.
1. Find part "U"
2. The cable is attached to the bottom of part "U"
3. The top end of part "U" (the little hook looking thing) fits into a slot on the rear brake shoe.
4. Remove the shoes. When you do this, you can manipulate the rear shoe in such a way that part "U" and shoe can be separated. No tools are required to do this.
Edit: You don't need to remove the cable from part "U".
