Yes. Even a few feet's difference in stopping distance can be sufficient to avoid a collision.

The reason I'm asking is that I'm considering the Spohn 1LE kit. It gives you the option of Earl's steel lines for an extra $83.
How will performance be affected if only the front's get steel lines?

Does your 89 have rear discs (PBR's)? If so, purchase the 1LE set (five lines) for $99, IIRC.

BTW, if the fronts get Hawk pads and the rears retain the "like new" stock pads - any issues?

Re: For those who have gone with braided steel lines: was it worth it?
I just replaced my fronts since my rear is from a 95 Z28(newer hoses). Just doing that I felt a big difference in braking feel, and it seems easier to stop(not as much pedal pressure). I still plan on getting an adj prop valve, and stainless hoses for the rear.

Re: For those who have gone with braided steel lines: was it worth it?
I went with braided lines also about 10 years ago after I crushed the front driver OEM rubber line and locked up the caliper while driving. I did note something smelling hot for about 5 minutes before I came to a stop sign and pushed the front tire a good 1/2 mile with it squealing before getting it to a shop to pull over. I'm pretty sure mine were Earl's also.
I also went with the rear lines too. The pedal felt much more firm. Before it was a tad squishy at the very top. I still went with an adj prop valve also.
I'd probably rate the braided lines right up there behind the wonderbar install on how much you can feel it driving for little money spent.
