looking for brake upgrade w/fact. wheels, already seached
hey guys, I already did a SEARCH, couldn't find the answer I am looking for. I am trying to find which upgrade for my brakes will fit my factory Iroc wheels.
Yes I know of the thread that shows what size will fit, but I am trying to find out which setup will still run the seperate front and rear wheel setup. I know also that 1le setups and so on use 4 rear wheels on the car, and I don't want to do this (wheels all polished and powder coated). So does anyone know of a brake upgrade (12" prefered), that will fit factory wheels with seperate front and rear wheel????
Thanks guys.

Re: looking for brake upgrade w/fact. wheels, already seached
but the LS1 front kit pushes the stock wheel 1/2" out. Why not just do the 89 and later PBR swap if you want something close to a 12" setup? If it would for some reason push the wheels out it won't be noticeable to the naked eye.

no not the size or style of iroc wheel, but the different offset front/rear.....you should be running four REAR wheels.....I have the seperate FRONT and REAR wheels.....the front wheels being a different offset than rear.

really....I always thought that 1le cars ran four rear wheels....my neighbor has a '91 1le and it has four rears on it....weird. So you have the 12" brakes then....

Re: looking for brake upgrade w/fact. wheels, already seached
like 11.5 inch right?? Now here is another question....if I rotate my rear wheels to the front, the wheels sits way far inside the wheel well ....(I just went out and checked, my car is on jack stands and wheels off) the rear doesn't fit the front.
And then I just walked next door and double checked, his does have four rear wheels for sure....it looks like the 1le hubs sit farther out than mine do. So I'll need new spindles too, but what about his hub being farther out than mine.....If I put my front wheel on his car, it sticks way out, like and inch or something (we tried once cause he wanted to buy my wheels at one point)....is there two different 1le style brakes.\
not trying to doubt you but just got some weird questions

In order to continue using the stock wheels on your car, why not just purchase two thin slip on spacers to get the correct offset for the front wheels? I can't remember what the correct thickness is offhand, but it won't cost much for the spacers.

Re: looking for brake upgrade w/fact. wheels, already seached
If you are saying your back wheel is getting placed further in the wheel well, just use a spacer to bring it out a little.
The spindles are steering knuckles are the same thing and I don't think those would have to be changed anyway. I think it's just a little bit of modification that needs to be done such as drilling two holes larger and tapping it for new threads. I could be wrong on the modification part though.
Why are you only going to do the 1LE setup? You can get a larger brake setup under the IROC wheels.

Re: looking for brake upgrade w/fact. wheels, already seached
The 1LE spindles are OE spindles, like all thirdgens are equipped with, except the ears are cut off and the dust shield holes are drilled and tapped. Put the brake parts on the spindles and bolt up the wheels: Fronts on front and rears on rear. No spacers are required, period. This is a straightforward bolt-up swap (except for the drilling/tapping). Check the first thread in the following link for more info on the fronts (the rest of the link concerns swapping in 1LE rears):
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/faq-...iscs-89-a.html
EDIT: IIRC, the 1LE fronts push the wheel out about 1/4". At any rate, the 1/4" doesn't change wheel fitment with the proper OE wheel orientation. There aren't two different 1LE front brake options.
BTW, are you sure your neighbor isn't running four fronts?

no, it's four rears for sure...says rear on all of them...and he has the bigger brakes. That's weird, I wonder why his car can allow this......it's all factory looking, wheels look all in the correct space.
I'll check out that thread, and then order me some brakes. thanks

Either stop worrying how your neighbor has managed to do whatever he's done, or go over there and ask him. You do not need 4 rears for the 1LE brakes.

Re: looking for brake upgrade w/fact. wheels, already seached
I know ebmiller sells the 1LE kit. It's really expensive but he has it.
Front:
http://www.flynbye.com/catalog/i55.html
Rear:
http://www.flynbye.com/catalog/i10.html
I pieced together my entire C5 front kit for less then half of the front 1LE kit ebmiller sells (~$300). When I had the LS1 kit pieced together, I had the whole package for ~$250. Just some fyi...

Re: looking for brake upgrade w/fact. wheels, already seached
I can do $300 no problem....what is involved in that. Is that the one where you mill down a factory hub?? And then you have to make a new brake caliper bracket , correct??
I have the pbr rears already (come on '91 stock)
THanks for all your guys help.

Re: looking for brake upgrade w/fact. wheels, already seached
What is involved with the C5 front kit? At least 17' wheels, cutting down a stock rotor to get the hub, making/buying the caliper adapter bracket, finding C5 calipers, buying some C5 rotors, installing new bearings and grease, modifying the stock spindles (drilling and retapping two holes and cutting parts off)... I think that's everything. The 17" wheel part is probably whats going to put you off, but you can just go with the LS1 front kit then. It gets you a 12" rotor instead of the 11.6" rotors from the PBR setup and it also gets you a stronger and cheaper ($$ wise) caliper. If you're doing a front brake upgrade, I really don't see any point in doing something worse then the LS1 setup since it can be done so cheap. If you do a lot of track days with the car, you want to consider using C5 calipers with the LS1 rotor since the LS1 calipers have the tendency to spread when they have a lot of heat put into them. There is no reason to worry about this on a cruiser or daily driver vehicle... only if you do a lot of track days.
The reason I went with the C5 kit over the LS1 is because of all the track time my car sees and because I was going to be running 18" wheels anyway. I was actually thinking about running the 14" C6 rotor with the C5 calipers just because I have the room in my wheels and I may need the extra rotor mass when I get the car on Road America.
That's what we're here for!
