Backing plates WTF !!??
I'm need to get my rearend to the speed shop to get rebuilt. Is it possible to just remove the backing plates and brakes as a whole assembley? I unbolted the 2 small screws on the bottom and removed the one large nut on the top back for the axle flange but the backing plate dosent seem like it wants to budge. Is there sometihng else i need to un bolt or just yank on the backing plate more ?

Re: Backing plates WTF !!??
you have drums i assume? the axles have to come out to get the plates off, after that, everything should come off as one piece.

yes you dont have to dissasemble the brakes to remove the entire plate and brakes assembly. ive done it many times even on an 84 z28 when i swapped on 1980 cutlass ones
if you removed all four bolts then the plates should come off
maybe they are just stuck good
knock them around a bit with a BFH

If there are four-bolt flanges on a drum rear (another member has suggested that that's the case), would the rear disc backing plate bolt up?
