Master Cylinder Question..
I have a 1989 Camaro, it came with front disc, and rear drum...I swaped in a 1986 IROC disc rear....Now what master cylinder should I be using...I have the right prop valve.for the rear..I get conflicting answers...Please some one help me on this. Right now I have the 1989 unit in..I was told that 84 to 88 are different....Every thing is new, but the brakes still do not feel like I think they should..Is there a difference in the 86 master cylinder, and the 89..Mine is not 1le.Thanks Tom
Please give me some opinions on this, as I am at the end of my rope................

Re: Master Cylinder Question..
i have a 91 rs body that i swapped the driveline out of my old 88 iroc into. the 91 rs came with drums in the rear but i swapped in the entire rear end with the disk brakes. the master cylinder and power booster have to be swapped with it.
you can call up a garage that works on brakes and ask them.they will probably tell you the same thing.
hope that helped

Re: Master Cylinder Question..
BTW, the 86 combination valve would have had a different thread pitch that your 91. How'd you get around that?

Re: Master Cylinder Question..
Is the proportioning valve the same thing as the combination valve??? If so there was no thread difference that I could tell...I pulled the prop valve at the same time I pulled the rear end out of the car....For some reason O'Reileys says the 84 to 88 are the same, and 89 and up are different master cylinders.....Thanks everyone....Tom
BTW the booster is the one that came in the car...

Re: Master Cylinder Question..
Been there, done that - no need for a different master cylinder.
If brakes still feel sloppy - test vacuum - maybe not getting enough.
Otherwise, bleed bleed bleed your way to better brakes - you know when you've bled them enough, because the local auto parts store will be out of brake fluid!
Only other suggestion would be new hoses on each corner - they wear out, then bulge under the pressure of the fluid, and thus less pressure gets to the calipers.

They know me by name now.....I have just put new Earls braided lines on it........ Vacuum should be good, but I will check just the same....May just replace the booster anyway, that way I know it is not a parts issue...For what I have spent on my thirdgen, I could have a 2010 Camaro, but it is an act of love...(or stupidity).....Thanks again to all.Tom
