Powder Coated Brake drums?

Does anyone make them?
The body shop years ago painted my brake drums with Engine paint and it's really held up well. But I think it's time for new drums on the car.

I did a search on here and on the net with no results as far as a supplier.
Is powder coating them just too expensive?

I'm sure many will suggest going to discs in the back, but I can't afford that right now. I don't have the parts or the skill to do that kind of swap.

I was just wondering if I have a powder coat option or just buy the drums and some paint.

Do a search for a custom powder coater in your area and get them done!

Re: Powder Coated Brake drums?

$60 to $80 bucks? Wow!
I didn't realize it would be that cheap for a pair!
I was thinking higher than that.
I saved your website.
Thanks! And I think I might be doing business with you soon, if you don't mind shipping them back to me.

Re: Powder Coated Brake drums?

Bummer! I have a UPS account # and could send ya return shipping lables in the box if that helps.
What if I made it a package deal? Shocks, struts, coil springs and drums?
No more than two colors and I take care of shipping? All you'd have to do is powder coat them and send them back to me.
I could spend my money locally, but would like to support business owners here on thirdgen.org.

Re: Powder Coated Brake drums?

Wow!
I work in construction and wish I was backed up for a month!
Maybe I should change professions.
Well, I tried. And thanks for being honest.
I'll try to find some shops in the Socal area.
Looks like you do some VERY nice work. Anything I should look out for when choosing a shop out here?
I've heard you can do this stuff in your garage, but it's talent and equipment that gets the job done.

Re: Powder Coated Brake drums?

I would stay away from any "industrial" coater as they tend to not worry to much about defects in the finish....look for a "custom" coater and ask to see some of his work first hand......we do local car cruises/shows during the warm months and have a ton of "display" samples such as wheels, valve covers, bike frames and such....asking around at the local cruise spots and on any local car forums should get you pointed in the right direction also.

Re: Powder Coated Brake drums?

Thanks for the tips and info.
I'd still like to do business with you though at this point.
I tried.
I knew of a shop locally years ago that did powder coating. I'll have to see if they are still around. Your prices seam really resonable.... is that what I should expect to find for quality work?

Re: Powder Coated Brake drums?

I am on several national powder forums and my pricing seems to middle of the road for the most part from what I have seen.........but it all depends on the location sometimes also.

Re: Powder Coated Brake drums?

Again, Thanks for all the info. I really appreciate it.
I have Torq Thrust II rims and they show everything.
I wanna spruce up that area of my ride.
Just talking with you tonight has opened up a few avenues for me tonight.
Now I just gotta find the street and location to get the job done.
Before chatting with you...
I thought I'd have to go with KYB silver shocks, and Eibach choice of black or red springs and unfinished rear drums. That's not the case!
Yes, it costs more to go kustom, but... with my rims... it would be a cluster f@ck of colors under there.
Thank You!

Re: Powder Coated Brake drums?

One thing to keep in mind on the shocks/stuts you will have to go with paint......the oil/gas in them and seals wont be able to be put in the oven at 400* for the cure...... rims, springs, drums can be done with no problem

Re: Powder Coated Brake drums?

Makes sense now that you mention it.
So that will be the base paint for my suspension.
Right now... it will be the KYB silver.
Thinking about getting the drums coated in silver and the springs coated in the body color.
