Rear Calipers 87 IROC
Rear Calipers 87 IROC
I am having the same problem with my rear disc brakes as everyone else is experiencing. I am thinking of changing the rear calipers, but, cannot get a straight answer from part stores on-line. Some say there is a left and right rear, others say there is only one rear caliper and can be installed on either side. Can somebody shed some light on this for me?
Thanks,
Gary

If you have the cast iron calipers, which 87 probably does, then you have a single part number for both sides. One mounts leading the axle and the other mounts trailing the axle. Some 89 and newer cars would have the aluminum calipers that are right/left specific.

Re: Rear Calipers 87 IROC
Best bet would be to get some LT1 rear calipers, as they are the same basic caliper that came on the 89+ cars, save for minor cosmetic differences. Then you would need to get the backing plates for your rearend, whether it be a 9 bolt or a 10 bolt. The new brakes will be trailing where, as mentioned before, you have one in front and one behind. I actually have a pair of freshly rebuilt PBR rears, the stock brakes off my 89 IROC, if you're interested. The red paint faded dramatically after only a few hundred miles, but they would clean up very nicely, and they work perfectly
