ATTENTION ED MILLER!

Hey Ed, I purchased your C4 12" setup some years back. When this pad/rotor combo is worn I would like to swap to the 13", HD rotor. Is it as simple as swapping the caliper mounting brackets from the C4 kit to the C4 HD kit? Can I use the same spindles and hub setup that came with the C4 kit? Thanks much

Will

Re: ATTENTION ED MILLER!

since all the brake upgrades use the stock cutdown rotor/hub, i would believe that it would just be a matter of swapping the caliper bracket. Unless the calipers themselves are different for the HD setup?

Re: ATTENTION ED MILLER!

Hey NorcalZ28. I have the same setup as you and after I get bigger rims I'd like to upgrade too. From what I remember, the 1LE hub is used to space the rotor correctly (and its heavier duty). It might be possible to use a wheel spacer behind it, but I don't know if thats a bad idea or not.

Re: ATTENTION ED MILLER!

Seems like it would make sense to be able to just swap brackets, but I figured I would ask the man and see what he said directly. The calipers are the same, so if it's as simple as a bracket/disc swap, I'm all over it.

Re: ATTENTION ED MILLER!

I know the bracket is the same for both setups, but the calipers aren't. The C4 standard is a ~0.8" rotor, but the HD is a 1" rotor, so the calipers aren't wide enough to accept the thicker rotor. I know I wish they were.

Re: ATTENTION ED MILLER!

the bracket for the 12 and 13" setup is the same, the difference is in the bolt hole location on the caliper abutment bracket, not in the spindle brackets. Same bracket for both apps. All you need is the 13" rotor and the proper caliper abutment bracket.

Re: ATTENTION ED MILLER!

I tried contacting him directly, no dice.

Does anyone know if there is a 13" rotor with a .80" thickness? Seems like that would allow me to keep the same calipers and only change the "abutment bracket."

Re: ATTENTION ED MILLER!

I don't think there are any so you will have to change the caliper also. The 12" vette \rotor is only .079" thick, the 13" HD one is 1.1" thick.

84-87
Diameter: 11 1/2"
rotor thickness: 3/4"
inside diameter of the hole on the wheel side: 2 3/4"
inside diameter of the hole on the hub side: 3 3/16"
from wheel surface to outer rotor surface: 1 3/4"
from hub surface to inner rotor surface: 2 1/4"

J55
Diameter: 13"
rotor thickness: 1 3/64"
inside diameter of the hole on the wheel side: 2 3/4"
inside diameter of the hole on the hub side: 3 5/16"
from wheel surface to outer rotor surface: 1 1/8"
from hub surface to inner rotor surface: 1 15/16"

I'm beginning to worry about Ed Miller's health. He was always so quick to answer and help on the boards. I also contacted him through his site, PM and posting and have gotten no answer. Hope he's OK.
