LS1 rear brake question

So I've got a 9" and just installed ls1 rear brakes. My question is, is there anyway I can do away with the rubber brake line that comes out of the caliper's and just run hard line from the calipers? If not, how should I secure the rubber line out of the calipers? There is nothing on the 9" to clip or secure the rubber line too. I already tried putting a hard line into the caliper but since it isn't a tapered hole the line just slides within the end of the bolt. Any help would be appreciated!

Also, will the LS1 E brake cables work or are they too short. From the look of them they appear to be shorter. And there is a stock ls1 front brake setup I could buy for $150, is this a good deal? Or is it a headache to convert them over to fit??

Re: LS1 rear brake question

the calipers float ont he abutment brackets, you really need the flex line. Mine are not supported, but the hardlines are supported right by the wheels. Never had problems.

edmiller's company flynbye, has bolt in replacement cables for the ls1 rear setup. about 100bux, i have them, they work well.

converting the front takes a bit of work and fab. 150 for the ls1 calipers is a bit much IMO.

Re: LS1 rear brake question

I'm adapting LS1 brakes on my 9" small bearing rear now. The stock ebrake cable/caliper brake line brackets fit right over the LCA mounts just like it does with a stock GM rear. Do you have these brackets? They support the brake line.

Was your rear set up for the LS1's or did you have to adapt them like I am?

The LS1 cables work perfectly. The brakes are in the same place as they were on a stock GM rear. You need to change out the brake lever to a 4th gen one, and get the front brake cable mount off a 4th gen and mount it to your car. It sounds way harder than it is. Ed's cable's are nice, but you can do it much cheaper with some stock parts and a little elbow grease.

Here is a link to the thread. I helped Al get his identical setup to mine sorted out.

Re: LS1 rear brake question

yeah I had the 9" made so the ls1 brakes would bolt right up. And yeah I do have those brackets that the e brake cables are on. Just hadn't gotten them put on yet. So that must be what I was missing. I knew those rubber hoses had to clip or go somewhere. -Thanks

Re: LS1 rear brake question

Who did you buy the rear housing from?

Mine's an old currie I picked up used and I called them and asked it they had ends I could buy to mount the LS1 and they said "We do not have a product that will allow you to mount those brakes to a ford 9" Odd somone else can do it and not currie.

So, an 1/4" spacer plate, a bearing spacer and a little work and they are almost on. I'm just going to use the backing plates with ebrake not the calipers. I picked up a set of Superlite II's I'm hanging on the rear with a bracket I made up in my CAD program. Yes they are overkill, but hey I'm a guy and I like overkill

Re: LS1 rear brake question

I got everything from PA Racing. It's a moser housing and axles with a Strange center section. PA can have them built anyway you want. They are really good. paracing.com is the website.

Re: LS1 rear brake question

So the ls1 calipers rubber lines will be pointed downward correct? That's about the only way I see that the e brake bracket will support the hardline and the rubber line, since the bracket is under the axle and not on top of it. Just want to make sure though...

Re: LS1 rear brake question

If your going from drum to disk yes you will need a different prop valve.
