Downside to using 82-83 disc rear vs. 84-up? Brake line/prop valve interchange?
I've got 2 83 Z28s, one with drums, one with discs. Both are 10 bolt rears, posi, 3:23 rears. The disc car is likely going to get stripped and crushed, so I can use that rear to swap into my drum car, or I can buy a later-model 3rd gen rear that's already done. Which alternative is best, and why?
From what I understand, the prop valve is different for 82-83 disc cars. Also, looking in Classic Industries catalog, they don't list a new stainless brake line for 83 Zs with 4 wheel disc, just 82s. I'd rather find a used/rebuilt rear in the classifieds or something like that, but I'm concerned that the differences in lines, calipers, etc...would keep it from being a bolt-in deal. Can anyone clarify for me?

82-83 and some early 84s use SAE threads, everything after is metric.

All the lines and hoses, yes.

From an interchange standpoint, it's probably best to use the other 83 axle I have, then. Are there any downsides to doing so? I thought there were problems with the calipers and such.
Also, does anyone know if a stainless rear brake line (not the hose, the line) is available for the 83 4w disc cars?

Try these guys... they might not list an 82-83 in the catalog, but if you ask them, they could probably flare the lines however you like.

Thank you.
I've got another question...instead of swapping factory prop valves, can I leave the existing disc/drum prop valve and plumb in an adjustable prop valve from Summit or someone?
Any other thoughts on which axle to use? 10 bolt or 9? 82-83 or 84-up?

You could eliminate the prop valve and use an adjustable one.
I'd use a 10 bolt, preferrably from a 90-92 car with 28 spline axles. 9 bolts are nice, but it's too hard to find parts.

Any idea what the downsides are to using the 83 setup I've got?

If it all works, then none really.
