Squeal That Goes Away When Braking

My camaro has developed this squeal that is coming from the driver side wheel. It's fairly loud as I can here it over my cracked manifolds. I thought it might be a wheel bearing but I noticed the noise goes away when I start braking. I jacked the car up and spun the wheel and it made the noise so I know it's coming from the wheel. I checked the pads and there not worn.
Am I right in assuming it's the wheel bearings? The fact that it goes away during braking has me doubting myself
Thanks
Alex

I have 2 drivers side wheels. 1 front, 1 back. :P Is your front or rear squealing? I assume discs since you said "pad" not "shoe".

Pull the caliper on the offending corner & check the pad. If the retaining tab is not holding it firmly to the caliper, it can wiggle out of a good setting & cause squealing. I've been through that on one corner of my GTA.

Lol sorry, the front. I also forgot to mention (if it helps) that this started happening right after I got back from a 300mi trip. Will do on the calipers.
Thanks for the help

A cracked or loose pad can cause that type of noise.

Check the pad thickness, it may be the low pad warning indicator. It is the little tab of metal that sticks out from the pad backing toward the rotor.

Re: Squeal That Goes Away When Braking

i'd definitely say it was a wheel bearing on a FWD vehicle, if the pads are odly worn (at an angle) but I don't think the hubs on a third gen allow that much movement unless a bearing was broken in half?
take a close look at both pads to make sure, you wouldn't be able to tell unless the caliper is off

X2. This was exactly the symptom when my front pads needed to be replaced. I had always thought that the squealing would occur during braking, but that's not the case.
