Front Caliper piston help

Hey guys. I'm trying to do a brake job on the girl and she's giving me some problems. The rotor was shot to hell (will post a pic tonight) an now that I've fixed that I'm trying to get the piston back in the caliper so I can put the pads on and the damn thing won't budge. The cap to the brake cylinder is off, and both myself and my dad have tried using anywhere from 1-3 c clamps at any point. The damn thing refuses to budge. Any advice on how to get the thing in? I tried a search and didn't turn up anything.

Re: Front Caliper piston help

if the bleeder screw is open and the caliper is frozen, then it's time to buy a reman'd unit from a parts store.

Re: Front Caliper piston help

it would be a good time to replace the rubber flex lines . they will/can collapse internally and act like check valves . i have had this happen on 89 camaro , 89 dodge P/U , & my 91 camaro . my bet is if the bleeder port was not open they are the problem . good luck .

Re: Front Caliper piston help

Yep - since you have to replace the caliper and bleed the system anyway, make sure to replace the rubber brake lines as well - makes a ton of braking difference with new rubber lines.

Re: Front Caliper piston help

Calipers are less than $10 apiece. http://www.autozone.com/autozone/par...208793_0_2362_ Might as well be free.

Not worth fiddling with if you have even THE SLIGHTEST doubt. Just swap em and move on.

And the rubber lines advice is RIGHT ON THE MONEY too; that's a very common fail on old cars, in general. The inside of the fittings where the rubber part attaches to the ends, rusts, and eventually closes completely off. Just about all cars of all brands will eventually do that. Those are almost as cheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep, might as well do them while your'e there too, since it doesn't really cost any more, and ... get this .... it might KEEP YOU (and everybody else on the road) ALIVE a few days longer. I'm assuming you would think that would be a good idea?
