1LE/PBR rear brakes

Hey Guys,
I just replaced my rear and swung my rear stock 1LE brakes over to the new rear. I did have an issue when the bleeder on the passenger side snapped off in the caliper but I drilled it out and re tapped it and seems to be ok. So I have the back of the car still in the air on jack stands and bleed the brakes. I put the car in gear and tried to stop the rotors from spinning by hitting the brakes at an idle. I can barely get them to stop standing on the brake peddle, any ideas why the rear brakes are preforming so poorly???
Also just want to be sure I put the pads in the calipers correctly... I see the pads have a spring/clip on them...I have that spring/clip locked onto the back side of the caliper on the cooling fins....is thjat correct??

Re: 1LE/PBR rear brakes

Lube the guide pins and back off the parking cable adjuster, then pump the brakes till the pads are against the rotor and only then adjust the parking cable so the mechanism doesn't tilt over too far or it won't work properly. As for holding power, they don't have a lot of holding power at all but it should be a little better if you have it all adjusted properly.

Re: 1LE/PBR rear brakes

TWIN, I should pull the E brake handle and pump the pedal to adjust the brakes? Also I'm not confident that I installed the pads in the calipers correctly. The pads have a spring type clip on the middle back of the pad. I have this clip hooked through the opening on the caliper and grabbing the backside of the caliper. Now the pad looks like isn't riding in the same wear area on the rotor as it was before.

CJ, The 1LE rear brakes were stock 89-92

Note the instructions, concerning the spring, in the following link:

Where the parking brake issue is concerned, you might consider 'free travel':

Re: 1LE/PBR rear brakes

The clips go under the caliper, not through the hole and over. They are to preload the pads in the guide slots. As a result, your pads are loose now and sit too high. if there is any meaningful sized ridge on the edge of the rotor you're now digging into that and loosing a lot of contact area between pad and rotor, not just from sticking out but also from butting against the ridge and barely contacting the rest of the rotor. The clips go in... like this

Re: 1LE/PBR rear brakes

ok, thanks guys..I pulled the pads off and put them back with the clips now inside the caliper..I have to wait for my friend to stop over to bleed the brakes again. Twin_Turbo I saw in a link you posted above it said to bleed the brakes with the car running. Yesterday I was bleeding them with the car off, does that make a difference?

looks like I was thinking of another post someone else wrote..sorry

what would cause the rear brakes from being able to stop the wheels from spinning at an idle when on jack stands? Does this sound like I have air in the brake lines?
