found LS1 brake conversion cheaper

Hey guys just thought I'd share. I'm having my brakes converted to the ls1 set up from a guy locally and i asked him if he would be interested in more of these brake jobs and he said yes. Basically you supply the parts and he will do the machining and assembly for about $250 ish depending on what all you want. I'm pretty sure he has the ability to do some custom requests as well. I've been to his place and he's a SUPER nice guy and really knows his stuff (i wish i had his garage lol) if you want his email pm me and if he doesn't mind I'll post it in this thread after he sees it and approves.

Re: found LS1 brake conversion cheaper

Hey guys.... I am the guy that Brian is talking about. I thought it would be better if a member that he been on the board longer than I have post first.

Either way if you have any questions send me a PM or post in this thread.

I will be doing Brian's brakes first and when they are done will post some pictures and put together a group buy if enough people are interested.

Re: found LS1 brake conversion cheaper

Another option is if you can find somewhere near you to do the machining work I can just sell you the needed brackets. They would be cut out of 3/8" mild steel on a water jet.

There are a few different options and ways to go about it, it depends a bit on what you already have..... ie. third gen performance package rotors/hubs have a bigger outer bearing and bigger rotor compared to the non performance package cars. The non performance package rotor/hub is a lot cheaper than the performance package rotor/hub.

Re: found LS1 brake conversion cheaper

hey guys i got my brackets and hubs back this weekend. i asked him not clean anything up so i could blast it all down and paint so don't mind the grime and stuff on the parts but everything looked great and the discs fit awesome on the hubs. Jake is very nice to work with and has a lot of knowledge about cars so he's been a great help all around, he's also going to be doing my ls wiring harness and a few other things... just trying to give props where props are due and pass along a good contact for you guys.

if anyone needs some better pics i can take them for ya and I'll be posting some pics when i get everything all cleaned up and installed on the car so you can see fitment.

Re: found LS1 brake conversion cheaper

Thanks for the props! If anyone is interested in buying a set of brackets or a complete setup send me a PM. Shipping the parts back and forth might make it a bit costly but if you are willing to pay for shipping I can do the work. Price for just a set of brackets would be $80 shipped and if you want a set done it would be $300 plus any shipping. You would need to send me your spindles and hubs/rotors. I can get new rotors for about $40 if you just want to send the spindles. Also if you wanted it all powder coated before going back I have a guy that could do that at the same time.

As Brian said I plan to do his harness and tuning work as well.
thanks again for the post Brian. Looking forward to your monster when its done!!

Question for you - for 80 bucks shipped, what advantage does your bracket have over this bracket which is 75 before shipping: http://flynbye.com/catalog/i36.html

Re: found LS1 brake conversion cheaper

well jake would have to answer that one for the bracket. i know for me to have him do the whole project was about $200 to $250 cheaper then I could find on line to have it done. i had a great experience with jake and merely passing along a good contact for products/services for our cars.. thats a good thing

Sorry, "you" should of been clarified to be "jake". I have no doubt that as a whole you paid less, but that doesn't mean that that an individual part he is selling is less then you can buy it elsewhere

#1....flynbye takes 6 months plus to get people their parts plus rarely even responds to email inquiries.

#2....I bet shipping is greater than $5, so in that case the $80 shipped is cheaper.

just so you know jakes work is done right there. he has an awesome set up and he does this stuff A LOT for the bmw community and is doing a wicked ls1/bmw conversion so he's throwing out some feelers for ls1 type stuff.

like i mentioned it was just a nice experience and as parts and services get harder to find for our cars i thought i'd share.

Re: found LS1 brake conversion cheaper

There really is no difference between the bracket I had made and this one, http://flynbye.com/catalog/i36.html . At least not that I can see. He does include the hardware which I could do as well. If there in interest to do a group buy on brackets I might be able to get the price lower. $80 shipped is for two brackets cut and shipped. If there is interest I can see what it would cost if 5 sets were cut. I have no problem putting a group by together over on the for sale side of the board.

I have been involved in BMW stuff a lot longer than GM stuff. I met Brian through the part out of a 99 Camaro I bought. We got to talking and I said I could do his brakes...

Just offering the same thing to others if anyone is interested.

Re: found LS1 brake conversion cheaper

Jake, i`ve been trying to get a hold of Ed for a while to no avail.
Are you willing to turn down some 1LE rotors to make hubs for me?
Are you also willing to cut me some brackets for the C4HD conversion. The autocad and/or PDF file is available.

If you are, can you let me know and how much?
I live in Hamilton Ontario Canada L8W 2C9

Thanks man

Re: found LS1 brake conversion cheaper

Yes I can do that. I would have to check on the price to cut the brackets next week sometime before I could get you a complete price. Would you send me a set of rotors or would you want me to get them? The only difference between the 1LE and the stock rotor is the bearing size (when it comes to only using the hub part of it).

If I remember correctly the actual spindle is the same size but the outer size of the bearing is bigger in the hub. I can double check this again tho. The regular now 1LE rotors will work with the conversion. That is what Brian has.

Manic Z: I'll send you a PM as well

I'd rather you get the rotors so i don't have to ship em out to you.
The 1LE hubs are needed to do the C4HD conversion properly.

Yes, and flynbye's are zinc coated and include hardware. I am well aware of flynbye's reputation.

Re: found LS1 brake conversion cheaper

I am going to put some different packages together and then people can pick and choose as they want.

For example...
just brackets
a complete setup w/calipers/rotors/spindles/hubs/bearings - you supply nothing
Only modded hubs and brackets
modded spindles/hubs/brackets - you supply spindles and/or hubs
or anything in between
1le or non 1le for all the options

Powder coating looks like it will be an extra $60 for a set of spindles in any color you want.

I am planning to offer some group buy pricing early next week on the brackets once I get some prices back from the water jet guy. He is gone on vacation until next week. Hoping to bring down the cost of the brackets some if we cut multiple at the same time.

Once I get a quote back from the waterjet guy, early this week I can see about matching that price. The set I cut for brian was a one off set...if I do more I can bring the price down.

Re: found LS1 brake conversion cheaper

ok guys, sorry for the delay in getting back.

I can do any type of bracket, LS1, C5, C4HD for $55/set shipped in the US. This will only be if you get in during this group buy. By cutting more than 5 sets I can get a break on the price.

If you also wanted modded hubs it would be $120 shipped in the US (you supply the rotors, or an extra $60 for new non 1le, more for 1le)

To modify a set of spindles will be $60 (if you send the spindles) plus shipping back to you.

If you are looking to have me find all the parts and send a complete brake setup send me a PM to work things out. As it will depend on used spindles being available. There is a set local to me for $120 w/rotors so...

I plan to put an order in for the brackets the end of next week so if you want a set. Send me a PM with your paypal email address so I can send you an invoice when I am ready for payment. it will then take about 2 weeks to have the brackets cut (worse case for lead time)

If you have any questions feel free to PM

Re: found LS1 brake conversion cheaper

sorry too late to buy now....those that did buy the brackets were finished yesterday and will go out tomorrow or Friday at the latest. Sorry for the delay, the water jet guy was pretty backed up.

i agree in the group buy. As for the rear brake bracket for my 5th gen brakes i don't have any measurements or anything is there a way i could ship them to you and you make it?

Re: found LS1 brake conversion cheaper

If there is enough interested to do 5 sets I will do another run. As for the rear brackets I really don't have anything to mock them up on so it would be hard for me to make them being far away. Shoot me a PM if you want in and I'll start a list.

Re: found LS1 brake conversion cheaper

Jake,

Are you looking for 5 orders of the entire kit, or just the brackets?

thanks

Re: found LS1 brake conversion cheaper

Just 5 of the brackets....kits are on a one by one basis. Brackets are much easier for me to do.

$55 shipped for a set of brackets...if we get 5 sets
