Re: 1LE OEM set on ebay....

Yea thats been on ebay for about a month now. I dont think anyone in their right minds will buy it for that price when you can do an LS1 brake swap for about 500 bucks or there abouts depending on how you do it. To a collector who wants everything period like you could have gotten over the counter in 90/91 maybe but its older tech now and not worth his asking price.

Like anything else.. its whatever the market will bear... I would like to get a close-up look at those spindles though.

It is said that the 1LE spindle is a chopped-up stocker (like most big brake conversions). I have never had mine apart.. might be a good time to take a better look at it.

If someone was restoring a true 1LE car this might be the way to go...

Heck... I have Baer Hubs and C5 rotors I could mate to my 1LE spindles... That'll slow it down!

Re: 1LE OEM set on ebay....

I have my OE 1LE spindles apart now for a cleanup.
I remember pricing a complete 1LE front kit, bolts n all, it came out less than what hes wanting and that even had calipers with it..

There are calipers included in the auction...

Some people are purists and would prefer the real stuff rather than the repop stuff.

The whole beauty of the 1LE package was parts were supposed to be easy to obtain.

Re: 1LE OEM set on ebay....

yes I saw the reman calipers in the ebay add.
Back in the day, I priced it all with new calipers/pads from GM and it was less than what hes wanting his with the remans.

Back in the day you needed a VIN of a car that came stock with 1LE to order the brake calipers.
I had to use a friends TTA vin.

I dont ever remember the parts being restricted items... maybe they just needed a VIN to look up the part numbers.

THe dont come painted or coated with anything... so after 20 years of sitting in boxes I'd expect some surface rust.

Nope, gave them the part numbers. Also another friends dad was a GM parts guy.. He came back with the same info...."cant order, need vin"
Was using a modded vette caliper at first...

1LE set up just looks safer to me. I have the C5 ZO6 kit in the garage.... I really dont care for the way the caliper anchor plate sits outside the spindle/strut mount. The 1LE is on the inside, so if something goes wrong, the calpier isnt going anywhere.

Re: 1LE OEM set on ebay....

Those spindles aren't used. You would see bearing and seal wear on it.

To get the calipers you needed the part number or a VIN if the counter guy was dumb. My guy had no problems getting me the parts with just a part number..

Odd...

I've dealt with the same parts guy since the mid 80's and we were able to order what we needed.... for converting another car. didnt need VIN, but part numbers were hard to locate... that was back when part numbers were still in the books...

Anyone remember the old "green sheet" books ??

I guess all the GM guys in San Diego were dumb back 1989. They could order everything, driveshaft, gas tank, rear end, all the brake parts but the calipers. The spindles did a p/n change back then too...
It all worked out thou
