91-92 Camaro Z28 rear brakes

I want to apologize first for the seemingly stupidity of this question but I want to be sure. A 91-92 Z28 will have PBR rears regardless of whether its a 1LE or not correct? I'm asking because I know of one being parted out just down the street from me. And after talking to the guy I am thinking I might take the doors, the t tops (better safe than sorry in that case) and the rear calipers to use as a core for new calipers. Naturally I'll only do the core idea if he wants next to nothing for the calipers.

yes, if the 91-92 has rear discs, and its the original rear in the car, they are the pbr/1le brakes

Re: 91-92 Camaro Z28 rear brakes

ok I thought so. I will see what I have to work with. If I have enough to work with and the calipers are cheap maybe I'll use them as a core. The car itself is a goner. He lost it trying to avoid a deer. stuffed it in a ditch and twisted the unibody all out. In fact I passed him not long after it happened that night. Wasn't sure what happened at the time. He has since gotten an LT1 T56 4th gen. But was smart enough to part out the Z28. Its a 5 speed and 5.0. Interior is gone out of it so far, spoiler is gone, dash pad is there but cracked to hell. hes got some usable parts still there. Hes pulling the motor and likely the trans too.

For those who might be searching in the future, all J65 cars, 89-92, were equipped with PBR's.

BTW, I'd grab all the brake hardware: combination valve, parking brake cables, hard lines and fasteners, backing plates, etc.

The core charge on those calipers is definitely not trivial... go to the parts store and find out what it is, and go from there. I think you'll find that it's somewhere between $75 & $100. Seems like last time I bought them the core was more than the rebuilt part itself.

That is exactly what I'm thinking. Even if I went to Rock Auto I'd be at 80 bucks combined for the return core. I'd still be getting more money back. I'll take another look as for the moment that is more critical for me than the doors or a spare set of roof panels. I am wondering if he will take 200 or so for everything including the roof panels and doors at 175. 25 bucks for the rest of it would be a steal, especially if the calipers are in real good shape and I can just reuse them.

James, I'm getting new hard lines regardless. Already have the soft lines, and I have a set of backing plates on the car already. However, if the guy is up for it I will see if I can get all the brake parts. Its not a 1LE car. It had the iron fronts. He had a wheel off the car so I saw that right away. I will talk to him this afternoon. If hes up for it, I'll get all the parts related to the rear brakes today.

Might check for the 36mm/24mm sway bar combo.

I will. Already have the 36mm put on the front of the 84. Have a 23 mm on the back that was original to the car as it had WS6. The 24 might be nice to have but I hear people saying it snaps too easy on the track and they end up using a 21 anyway. But yes I will check when I go get the doors and roof panels.
