Re: Caliper help..

I don't rebuild calipers unless they're bad.

I'd also put a lot more effort into swapping to 89-92 rear discs than repairing the early iron caliper discs. Hard to find caliper brackets be damned.

As to the identification of your as pre or post-recall, I'd post in the brake forum here on thirdgen instead of the transmissions and drivetrain forum.

Here's the general idea for 89-97 PBR's:

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/faq-...iscs-89-a.html

The 98+ is easy as well.

No.

Members have modified the backing plates, yes, but I'd feel uneasy about it. A search no doubt would turn up some info.

Here are new 9-bolt backing plates (though you'd still need parking brake cables, combination valve and so on):

More general brake info here:

PBR's were used on 89-97 and 98+ (though the design is different for the latter). Since your 88 has a tunnel-mounted parking brake adjuster and the fourthgen car wouldn't, I doubt that the cables from the donor will work--might be worth a try, however. IIRC, the combination valve from the LT1, 93-97, won't fit, the LS1, 98+, will. You can purchase a modified 1LE valve from ED Miller.

Re: Caliper help..

Ok ill grab the cable from the donor car and guess ill just buy the combo valve but still confused on how the ebrake would hook up because the car I got the pbrs off of the ebrake was set up like a drum brake behind the rotor? Would I transfer all that over to the 9bolt?

Humm, sounds like the LS1 set-up to me and that set-up is made for a 10-bolt.

The following is a caliper (89-97) that will fit a 9- or 10-bolt with the correct backing plate:

http://www.flynbye.com/catalog/i243.html

Correct backing plate for the above (the rusty one is the 9-bolt. Note that the bolt pattern is different):

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/atta...89-bplate2.jpg

Here's the 98+:

http://www.flynbye.com/catalog/i60.html

The above is designed for a 10-bolt axle flange which is different than a 9-bolt. To my knowledge, no one makes a kit that will allow the swap. You might mod the 9-bolt axle flange, but I'd personally feel uneasy about it.
