Front PBR Calipers?

Could a set of front PBR calipers from later thirdgens be swapped onto an otherwise stock brake system on an 85 model?

What were the differences (In fitment) if any?

Yes, the 1LE's, for example, which I have on my 85. Regardless of the type of PBR caliper, the spindle requires modification. The following will provide info:

So ONLY the 1LE calipers? Those weren't the only cars to get front PBRs were they? I know non 1LE cars had rear PBRs. My delco calipers make me wanna puke.

The important thing is that I am able to retain my $200 set of 10.5" SSBC slotted rotors I installed less than a year ago. Pads are almost brand new, but wouldn't loose sleep over them.

The LS1's are PBR's. You'd have to use rotors designed to fit the application--the 10.5" version won't work.

Sorry I'm getting a little confused here.

So are you saying only the 1LE calipers would fit a 10.5" rotor and not the ls1 calipers, or that no PBR caliper would fit a 10.5" rotor and I'd have to upgrade to 12" rotors?

No, the 3rd gen front pbr calipers wil not work with the stock 10.5 rotors. Rears won't either. If you want to keep your current rotors, you are stuck with what you have now.

if you were able to use a different caliper, be it a pbr or any other brand on your stock rotor, the whole deal would be custom and you would have to have brackets made to adapt them, if its even possible

I believe Anything is possible with determination and the right engineering/fab skills, but the work to payoff ratio doesn't seem worth it.

It's cool. Delco calipers suck the big weenie but I'll either wait til the rotors are shot (Not happening anytime in the near future as they're brand new, I hardly ever go for a spirited backroad drive anymore and the car is gonna be retired to a weekend cruiser in the next couple years) or wait like a patient little spider for a good deal to pop up on the SSBC dual piston quick change calipers. $400 for a set of calipers is money poorly spent on a stock brake system.

Thanks for the help Matt.

Make sure you do the math on those SSBC calipers. They actually have 28% LESS piston area (clamping force) than the OEM calipers. That make be ok for your application, but check before you spend the money.
