Rear brakes

Will the rear disc brakes from a 4th gen fit a 3rd gen?

Welcome to TGO, A-Z.

Listing your car's year, make, model, engine, trans, and rear end is always helpful in answering questions. Also, try to be as specific as you can, for example, do you wish to swap on 93-97 LT1 brakes or 98+ LS1 brakes? Is your current rear set-up with discs or drums? Is it a 9- or 10-bolt?

A search is generally a good idea of TGO, as most questions have been asked and answered at some point.

Best of luck with your project.

Re: Rear brakes

Sorry this is my first f body & I'm building it with/for my son. The car were working on is an 82 z28. At some point someone swapped the 305 cross fire to a 350 carb. I've swapped the rearend with an 85 because of better gears( its a 10 bolt ).I now have a 94 v6 parts car that I was wanting to pull the rear brakes from & was wondering if they'll bolt up to the rearend or will I need some kind of adaptors?

If the 85 was originally equipped with rear discs, you'll need the backing plates from the 94. If the 85 was equipped with drums, you'll have to modify the axle flange or purchase the following kit:

http://www.flynbye.com/catalog/i30.html

For best brake performance, you'll need the correct combination valve or an adjustable. Since your 82 will have SAE fittings at the combination valve, the adjustable might be a better/easier answer. Purchase parking brake cables for an 89-92 and you should be in good shape.

EDIT: The following FAQ will provide some info on brakes that might prove interesting:

Re: Rear brakes

Thanks for all the info. I've been looking around at what others have done and think I may try to make brackets myself. It sounds like alot of work but I think in the long run it'll be fun to share with my son.

Re: Rear brakes

It is a pretty good drive. I went by there when I went to pick up a T56 trans for my Bird.
I was hoping we might have been able to help each other out.

Re: Rear brakes

It'd be nice to have others that enjoy spinning wrenches around. It kinda drives me crazy... I think my son is the only one out of his friends that's interested in cars. We're in a very small school district by the way.
