Replace broken brake fitting?

Ran a search and got conflicting answers so im starting a new thread.

I was in the process of installing new brake lines on my new rear end as well as the connector hose from the hard line to the rear end. Doing so, i broke the fitting on the hard line that runs from the prop valve all the way back to the connector hose. Some say i need to replace the entire brake line, which id rather not do; some say the fitting can be replaced but didnt specify how exactly it would need to be done.

Anybody have any insight into whether replacing the fitting that connects to the hose is possible, and how it would be done?

thanks guys!

Re: Replace broken brake fitting?

The real question is how and why did the fitting brake? If its from severe corrosion, then the integrity of the rest of your lines would be in question as well. In this case, I would replace the whole line.

If you think the problem is localized to just the fitting, then you can cut the flare off the line, remove old flare nut, install new flare nut, re-flare line. Then you would need to find a way to get everything to line up with the ~1/2" less length in the line. There should be enough slack in the bends back there to make this work.

The brake line is in decent shape for being 20 years old. The fitting broke because it was rusted to the bracket that attaches to the frame. When trying to unscrew the fitting (which i admit i did too aggressively) it ended up breaking.

Im gonna try and re-flare the fitting and see if it works. Does it need to be double flared or will single suffice?

thanks

Re: Replace broken brake fitting?

Can anyone confirm the exact fitting size for the rear brake line?

6mm M12 x 1.0 ?
