Need help finding a brake part
1986 Iroc Z28
I'm trying to find a Brake pedal to booster shaft retaining clip. for my 86 iroc z I just purchased the car some guy had zip ties holding the clutch and shaft together that broke off as I was driving so I was unable to shift luckily I was near an empty lot and popped it into neutral and glided into a parking spot, I fixed the problem walked home got some tools came back fixed it up then. On my way to work I lost my brake pedal it fell to the floor was like a swing i pull over check it out and no clip at all holding the brake pedal to the booster shaft was trying to check all hardware stores/auto stores in my area and was unable to find anything, I was hoping someone on here had one they could sell me or I'll probably have to check out a junk yard sometime over the weekend...thanks much for your time and concern. Hopefully someone knows where I can find a brake pedal to booster shaft retaining clip..

Might be a dealer part, or a junk yard part.

^Funny that you say that, because my experience has been exactly the same, I even drew a diagram from the guy at Auto Zone lol. Was clueless as to what I was talking about. Thanks for your help, I'll just head to the junk yard tomorrow.

Re: Need help finding a brake part
I never followed up with the dealer, though I probably should have. Considering my clutch's master cylinder rod is held onto the pedal using a metal zip tie and an E-clip.

Re: Need help finding a brake part
The E-clips edges just aren't big enough to prevent it from getting wedged in odd positions at times. It keeps it from coming off though.
The metal zip tie is there to restrain it so that the rod can't slide too far towards the e-clip.
its not ideal, and there is a bit of play. Most of that is because the thirdgen pedals pin is larger than the 4th gen master cylinder's plastic bushing was. So i had to break the bushing since i couldn't drill it out. I need to get a small bit of delrin and machine the outer and inner diameter to match rods inner diameter. That should fix the issue.
or I could convert to 4th gen pedals. It wasn't that hard to get the pedals in the care. Time consuming, and uncomfortable even with the seat out. But it got done.

Maybe I don't get it as I use 4th gen pedals. But in that application the e-clip is just fine. There is no significant movement.

Re: Need help finding a brake part
the 4th gen master cylinder I bought uses a plastic bushing to go on the pin the 4th gens have on the clutch pedal.
However on the 3rd gen pedals the bushings inner diameter is too small to fit over the 3rd gen pin. I tried to bore out out slightly but it just cracked in half completely and fell out, leaving a metal ring that is too large for the pin.
Like I said. I need to make a delrin bushing and drill out the ID to match the 3rd gen pin, and the OD to match the ID of the clutch master cylinder rod.
Or just switch to 4th gen pedals and solve the problem. Though the bushing is still cracked and gone so I'd end up with a somewhat similar situation there too unless i replaced the bushing.
