Brake Problem Solved!
Brake Problem Solved!
Just in case someone else runs across this issue, maybe I can save them some time and money...I did several searches and couldn't find it in the site so here goes.
I thought I'd share a recent experience I had with the brakes on my 88 IROC. I had installed a Baer 13" front, 12" rear disk system about 10 years ago and have been very happy with the performance. I have been autoXing the car and making suspension adjustments/changes during which I installed a tubular K member and arms (8 months ago). Happy with that too.
The symptom was that after making a hard turn (left or right) into the starting grid or into my driveway when I got home the brake pedal would travel excessively - in fact, in some cases all the way to the floor. Master cylinder right? So I replaced it - twice. Engaged in self doubt as to my ability to bleed brakes I had a shop do it. Drove out of the shop, perfect, hard left into my driveway - pedal to the floor.
Solution: The problem was that there was no effective steering stop with the new front suspension so the hard turn would push the front pistons back into the caliper to the extent that no amount of pedal travel could recover. I fabbed and welded in hard stops that contact the inside of the spindle casting and problem is now solved.

Re: Brake Problem Solved!
Common problem. Happened to me after my front LS1 break swap. I pressed in all new control arm bushings and had them powder coated. Because I removed the factory steering bump stops the same thing happened to me.

Well holy crap! Happening to me too. I assumed it was low vacuum as it only did it after quick forward / back maneuvers trying to pull in somewhere. Fits perfectly as I do not have stops on my Spohn a-arms.
