so, I went out to the garage today and saw a puddle of brake fluid under my rear passenger side tire. I see that I can replace with a factory crappy caliper but what's the point? might as well crimp the hose off to stop the leak and be done with it. there has to be something in between dealing with junk and replacing with corvette brakes or bigbrakeupgrade ect. so this leads to the question can i replace thd rear brakes with the same kit as the front? I know I would lose the parking brake what other issues will I run in to?

Assuming... If you don't want to hunt down 1989 specific PBR caliper brackets and upgrade to 89-97 PBR calipers, and you don't want to buy a conversion part... Your best bet would probably be a pair of remanned calipers.

50% of the issues with the delco rear discs come from age, lack of service, etc. If you start with a good pair of calipers, set them up properly and use the e-brake regularly, they aren't completely terrible. They're just not worth converting to from anything else.

well I'm perfectly ok with getting remanufactured as long as they're going to work ok, I'm probably only going to drive it a couple hundred miles a year so I'm not sure the parking brake will get used very often. I'll look into the PBR and see if that's a possibility

so there is no way to go from this style caliper (stole the pic off of pepboys website) to something more like the front calipers?

this is from flynbyes website, if im reading this right it will give me the ability to swap out the current calipers and discs to something more like the front

Those are for bolting 89-97 PBR calipers to the rear, aftermarket copies or replacements for the used plates on ebay.

To the best of my knowledge, no one has adapted the fronts to the rear. It's not terribly practical since plenty of options exist for upgrading the rear brakes.

If you're not interested in investing a few hundred dollars or more into the rear discs, you're still furthest ahead to just get a set of rebuilt stock calipers.

Dig around a bit with the search feature, there are hundreds of threads on the stock brakes, PBRs, and upgrades.

I've read around quite a bit. I just can't seem to find anything about switching out the Delco moraine style calipers to a more modern style caliper. from everything I've read the Delco moraine calipers have a high failure rate due to poor auto adjusting. I have already swapped my front brakes and I've been trying to find an upgrade for the rear that doesn't require a lot of modification. I've also read that a 4th gen rear end or the rear end out of an s10 or blazer will have a larger selection of upgrades without excessive modification and the swap is not to difficult. and I dont mind spending a couple of hundred dollars as you implied. i just .want to be able to keep my wheels and get rid of the faulty calipers.

BTW, I experienced no real issues with the Delco-Moraines.
