Best way to minimize brake dust - pads/rotors/combo?

I'm reading conflicting reports of what causes brake dust and whether slotted/drilled rotors have any impact on the amount of dust (more/less).

any conclusions out there?

Brake dust is going to happen. Semi-metallic will put off the most dust and it will be the pillowy black dust everybody hates. Organic will dust less but can give a spongy feel once heated up and has a narrower heat range. Ceramic will dust less also but it will be an ash colored dust so it isn't as visible. Semi-metallic will have the best heat capacity, shortest stopping distance and a good pedal but again there is black dust and they can make the most noise and wear rotors the fastest. Organic and Ceramic both need to warm up with Ceramic needing the most heat. Slotted rotors can accelerate brake dust since their slots can have a shaving effect. I've always read that with today's brake tech drilled rotors are just eye candy when considering the size of rotors, multi-piston calipers and brake pad composition. I only have them because somehow it's usually cheaper to buy them drilled and/or slotted than to buy a standard rotor.

Re: Best way to minimize brake dust - pads/rotors/combo?

I've had an unknown set of pads create a lot of dust on my car with non-slotted and non-drilled rotors. All I had to do was switch to another brand of brake pad. I went with Hawk HPS and I didn't notice a difference in braking, but my brake dust problem went away. Okay, I still have to clean my wheels some but it's nothing like those other pads.

what about drilled rotors, no slots. do that create more dust given same pad vs not drilled
