Help!!! Caliper piston won’t retract.
Help!!! Caliper piston won’t retract.
I have a 1992 B4C/1LE car that has not been driven much in the past 15 years. I am trying to get it back on the road but the passenger front caliper pistons won’t retract. Any ideas on how to unstick it or will it require rebuilding the caliper?

What have you tried already?
Since you're here asking, probably be easier for you to just buy remans from the parts store and install them

I pulled the caliper and used a C clamp and a piece of metal to push both pistons in at the same time (equally) Re-installed and it was still not retracting.

Yes, got them pushed back in and re-installed on the car no problem. Spun the wheel before I let the jack down and it spun freely. When I tried the brakes again the wheel locked back up. The pistons wont retract, the brakes are constantly being applied.

Might be the brake hoses, when they get old they can prevent fluid from going back to the reservoir

Pull the brake line off the caliper and see if you can get the the piston retracted enough to remove it.

Optionally, crack open the bleeders. If they can be pushed in easily with the bleeders open and brake fluid squirting everywhere, the hoses are trash.
If you haven't changed the hoses recently, you need to change the hoses.
