Need help ls1 front brake swap
I have a 88 gta
I got my ls1 front brake swap and I did the driverside front and I think I got the caliper on backwards
I did every thing went to put my 16 gta rim and snugged the nuts and the rim locked solid and hits the caliper
I just left it for now
my driverside caliper I picked has the bleeder screw down 6oclock
I think I need to get the other one
can anyone tell me why everyone told me the swap fit my 16 gta wheels and now it's doesn't
what do I do

Re: Need help ls1 front brake swap
The bleeder goes up. The air will pocket at the highest point of the caliper, so that's where it makes the most sense to have the bleeder screw.

Re: Need help ls1 front brake swap
Ok great
ty all
so bleeder screws up
and the 3/16 spacer
I can try washers first just to see if it clears with 5 washers untill I have to order a wheel spacer

Re: Need help ls1 front brake swap
You need a 1/4" or 6,xx mm spacer with the crosslace rims. Otherwise it doesn't fit. Had the same problem years ago.

Re: Need help ls1 front brake swap
The factory spacer used in aluminum drum brake cars works also to space the wheel it's 3/16" as well

Re: Need help ls1 front brake swap
What if I switched my rear to front and front to rears
would it get rid of my rims sticking out 1 inch on the front
right now they are like sticking out 1 inch from the wheel well I don't like it

Re: Need help ls1 front brake swap
FWIW, I have four rear GTA wheels on my Formula and LS1 front brakes. Mounting the rear GTA wheel up front required the factory rear spacer to clear the calipers. My car was originally a rear drum car, so it came with the spacers. I did a rear disk conversion so they were no longer needed for the rear wheels.

Re: Need help ls1 front brake swap
Yes, you can swap rears to the front and fronts to the rear with a removeable rotor setup, but you still need that spacer to clear the wheel

Re: Need help ls1 front brake swap
Yes, it will fix this problem if you put the rear wheels on front. The LS1 front brake swap increases the front track by about the same amount as the offset of the rear wheels as compared to the front wheel offset. But the GTA wheels require the small spacer to clear the calipers. The standard Formula wheels did not need the spacer.

@bensbaby Can you post pictures of your progress with the LS1 front brake and your wheels? I'm going to be doing the LS1 front brakes here in the near future and I also have the GTA wheels.
