LS1 front brake swap
LS1 front brake swap
Has anyone done this and have it on the road. The local parts yard has a 2001 Camaro with 19,000 miles on it and I can get all the brakes off it. The rear setup is very easy swap, but all the searching I have done shows no front swaps on the road today.

AFAIK, no one has installed it yet. I will be making the bracket and putting the thing together this weekend, but I don't have 17" wheels to run it anyway.
Unless someone local lends me a set for a week...

No kidding Luke??? I could have swore they were required. I'll just try the ones I have then, but if by chance they don't fit. I'll call ya mark...your car can be the test mule.
I have noticed that the LS1 calipers don't have the stiffening ribs like the C5s do so I can assume there is more clearance given there.

Welcome to the LS1 brake crowd Jerrywho. I'm in the process of doing his swap but am only partly thru so far.
Ed,
Everything I have read on the LS1 brakes is that they will clear 16" wheels just fine. The C5 brake swap requires 17" wheels because the rotor is 13" in diameter.

The camaro LS1 brakes have 12 inch rotors so they will clear 16 inch rims. The reason the C5 setup doesn’t clear 16’s is it has 12.75 rotors.
I would love to test the setup on my car but right now it doesn’t have a engine in it so I can’t.

From what I understand all 98+ camaros had the bigger disc brakes, that means the base models had them too, I doubt gm put 17" wheels on all the basemodels some probably came with the steelies and I know they werent making 17" steel wheels.

LS1 brakes only need 16" wheels, the C5s require 17"s.
